Fire crews were called to the Adass Israel synagogue at Ripponlea at 4:18am after reports of the building on fire.

More than 60 firefighters and 17 trucks attended the scene as the response was escalated to a third alarm with crews wearing breathing apparatus attacking the blaze, which was brought under control just before 5am.
