From Natural Composition to AI to Architecture?
When I was in my first year in Architecture school, I remember It was so common for me to gather natural elements ranging from palm fronts, sticks, and fruits, to anything I could find around me, and group them in any order to form a composition. I would sit there and sketch that composition repeatedly until one of the sketches revealed what I had in mind. This particular skill was spurred by one of my professors, Architect Mfoumyoum Ndi Alexis. He is a great master.
I believe sketching is a very powerful tool that an Architect should possess. Non-living compositions have always been one of my strong concept-generating themes.
From a non-living composition of toilet paper, we can generate concepts for huge architectural projects such as the concepts in the images below. I believe this is where the power of Generative AI is. I had to explore AI myself to be able to accept it. One thing is for sure, Generative AI is here to stay.
