FORMER FC KALLON GOALKEEPER DONATES 100 BAGS OF CEMENT

As part of his contribution to the MK 3/10 Field Construction Project at Angola Town, Osman Tommy, commonly known as 'Van Der Sar' donated 100 bags of cement to boosts the project.

The former FC Kallon goalkeeper, who was between the sticks for couple of years, before leaving to further his university education, made this good gesture of 'pay back' to the CEO of the Club, Mr Mohamed Kallon, on Monday 2nd September 2024.
In his statement, Tommy said that, "I'm very much delighted with what I've seen so far, and I believe that these playing facilities will make a huge impact to the development of our players in the future.

The CEO on behalf of the FC Kallon Management express his thanks and appreciation to Mr Tommy for his support to the project. "I'm happy to see you coming back and give support to this team. It shows how greatfull you are, and want to be part of the Club development process.

Sierra Leone Council of Traditional Healers Apprehends Over 250 Suspected Witches.

The Council of Traditional Healers Sierra Leone has reported the arr£st of over 250 individuals suspected of practicing witchcraft across the country.

According to the Council’s Secretary General, Abu Joko Bangura, the majority of those apprehended were women and children.

“Our investigations have revealed that Freetown has the highest concentration of suspected witches,” Bangura told Awoko. The Council’s data, spanning from 2022 to 2024, indicates that more than 130 of the apprehended individuals remain unaccounted for.

Two people have been reportedly arrested in kabala for theft of newly installed solar traffic 🚦 light.

On Sunday, September 1, 2024.
Kabala, a township recently benefiting from newly installed traffic lights, has become the second area in the country to implement this safety feature, following similar enhancements in the capital, Freetown. These installations were made possible through generous donations from a local resident currently living in the United States.

Unfortunately, an alarming trend has emerged, with unknown individuals reportedly removing solar panels and batteries from the new traffic lights, which has raised serious concerns about the security of public property and the safety of the community.

In response to these thefts, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Kabala Division has been conducting discreet investigations to restore public confidence in safety measures.

On Sunday, September 1, 2024, officers from the CID apprehended Joseph Fofanah and Alhaji Koroma, both residents of Kodakayaka Street, during an operation led by Crime Officer Detective Inspector Sao Suma. The arrest was supported by local community members, including prominent businessman Lamin Bangura, known as 'Lamtec.'

The suspects were caught in the act, attempting to steal a 12-volt solar battery from a five-meter solar pole on Kodakayaka Street. The community has expressed relief and satisfaction over the arrests, commending the police for their efforts.

President Bio Appoints Dr. Kandeh Yumkella in New Position.

Freetown, Sierra Leone – President Julius Maada Bio has assigned new responsibilities to Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, appointing him as the Chair of the Energy Governance Coordination Group (EGCG), an initiative aimed at enhancing coordination and effectiveness within the Ministry of Energy.

In a notice from the Office of the President dated August 20, 2024, Secretary to the President Emmanuel A.R.

Gaima stated, “I am directed by His Excellency the President Brig. Rtd. Dr. Julius Maada Bio to write and inform you of his decision to assign you special responsibilities as the Chair of the Energy Governance Coordination Group (EGCG).”

The EGCG has been established to ensure coherence, effective information sharing, and coordination within Sierra Leone’s energy sector, specifically focusing on the operations of the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC), the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), and the Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC).

The notice outlined the key responsibilities of the group, including:

1. Providing technical guidance: The EGCG will oversee the technical delivery of the energy sector’s entities, ensuring their efficient operation.

2. Supporting immediate challenges: The group will provide facilitating and catalytic support to address immediate and short-term challenges within the sector.

3. Reforming energy policies: It will back policy and institutional reforms aimed at enhancing the sector’s performance.

4. Promoting investment: The group will guide the design and rollout of sector investment promotion initiatives.

The EGCG will be composed of various key figures in the energy sector, including the Deputy Ministers of Energy, Chairpersons of EGTC, EDSA, and EWRC, the CEO of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), and the Minister of Finance.

Breaking News!!

The Sierra Leone Police has charged Abdul Kpaka for the Murder of Sia Fatmata Kamara. He is expected to appear in Court in Freetown tomorrow, 28th August, 2024.

Sia’s tragic death has been widely condemned by the public and rights groups who are calling for a speedy investigations and trials of the matter after a postmortem examination showed that she had broken ribs and a damaged spinal cord.

The late Sia will be laid to rest on Sunday 1st September, 2024 after a funeral mass at that Charles Davies Memorial United Methodist Church in Lumley, following a laying out memorial service on Friday 30th August at the Auditorium Freetown City Council.
