Albania in 7 days: Good vibes, great food!

My Balkan foodie escapade started as I hopped on a bus in Skopje, Macedonia to check out Mother Teresa's memorial, and thought, why not explore Albania too? It's just a bus ride away, anyway! Couldn’t wait to see what this awesome country has in store for me. And so, first stop on my Albanian adventure was Tirana, the capital city.
I tried a random waffle at Kalaja e Tiranes in the evening; of course, waffle plus Nutella is always divine.
There were so many restaurants where you can dine in at a very affordable price here.
The next day, I decided to visit the old town in the north-central part of Albania and went for a little hike. That evening, on my way back to Tirana, I asked some locals about their traditional sweets. I was tempted to try everything, but I managed to resist and settled for just one.
And soon enough I was indulging in Trilece, one of those traditional Albanian desserts. It's a sponge cake and absolutely tasty! The next day, I went to Skoder in the northern side, where the weather was amazing.
Food is great and really not pricey. For AED8, you'll get a carbonara portion served in an artful way.
An ice cream along the way? I got very curious when I saw a lot of people queue up for ice cream in this cold weather. A natural ice cream for 100 Lek, which is 4dhs. It's so satisfying.
And my last stop, a beautiful mountain called Theth. This place is such a gem!
I met a beautiful family who owns a guesthouse and hosted me for almost a week, experiencing cooking and indulging in some traditional food.
"Tave me Domate" contains calf beef and vegetables, baked with love by me and Albanian friends.
Also, I learned how to bake fresh bread and how to cut it the Albanian way.
Chicken Albanian soup is so good in such a cold weather. This is actually my favorite! Strella's guest house offers a uniquely plated assorted dish called Strella 1 on the menu.
Tavë Elbasani or Tavë Kosi contains sheep meat, originated in Elbasan, and is the national dish of Albania.
And tried some delicious bake cheese and spinach Byrek, I can’t stop eating this one. This is baked by Mrs. Shpella, the owner of the guest house.
It's fascinating to know that in Albanian culture and in other Balkan countries, placing a teddy bear or hanging them outside the home is seen as a superstitious practice believed to bring good luck, according to some Albanian friends.

Tiyula itum, or Tiyula Sug, is a rich Tausug beef dish infused with chili, garlic, onion, ginger, turmeric, langkuas (galangal), lemongrass, black pepper, and salt. The distinctive black color is achieved by adding burnt coconut, known as syunug lahing, which is rubbed into the meat along with other spices for marination. "Tiyula" translates to soup, while "itum" means black. This black soup is traditionally served during special occasions such as Muslim weddings and the Eid holidays.

While this dish is rooted in Southern Mindanao, particularly in Sulu and nearby provinces such Tawi-tawi, Basilan, and Zamboanga, it has also found its place in Tausug-owned restaurants and eateries in Metro Manila.

Travelling with her Abu Dhabi friends, Brian & Adil, Tathee says: “Excitedly, we agreed to explore the city first, ensuring we took in all its beauty before indulging in a delicious feast!
“We didn't miss the chance to try the famous bubbly beverage in Reims and learn how it's made.
“The coolest part is, they offer complimentary postcards to send to anyone you like, anywhere in the world! After hours of tasting grapes, we ran out of time and ended up relishing some delicious Vietnamese food.
“We couldn't resist trying the famous Pho Bo (beef soup with noodles) and chicken with rice meal. It was absolutely worth it, and surprisingly, we savored the most authentic Vietnamese cuisine right here in France. Who would've thought! LOL.
“In the evening, we headed to a local French restaurant to indulge in their delectable cuisine. We had for starters a homemade onion soup grafin, veal blanquette a l'ancienne, an old-fashioned veal ragout served in a rich cream sauce; thee traditional Bourguignon beef, which is a French beef stew braised in red wine; and the exotic Burgundy snails or escargots, cooked with parsley butter.
“We also feasted on Os à moëlle granité à la fleur de sel or bone marrow granita with fleur de sel, and Travers de bœuf au barbecue cuit à la rôtisserie or Grilled beef cooked in a rotisserie.
“Indeed, French food is heavenly to say the least. I’ll keep coming back to France and explore more of this wonderful country’s gastronomy. Sama kayo?”

🍽️ Bulgogi Grille Dubai - A Food Trip Team Review

📍 Bulgogi Grille, Dubai

Stepping into Bulgogi Grille - Dubai, we were immediately hit with the warm, inviting atmosphere that set the tone for our culinary journey. The restaurant's modern, sleek design paired with traditional Korean touches created a delightful blend of old and new - a perfect reflection of the food itself.

At a jaw-dropping price of just 39 AED, we had access to an abundance of dishes. The Vegetable Fried Rice was a delightful surprise, packed with flavor and freshness, while the Yakisoba transported us to the streets of Japan with its perfect balance of sweet and savory.

The Beef Stew was slow-cooked to perfection, melting in our mouths with every bite. Seafood in a Cajun, Stir Fry Vegetables, and Korean Chicken Fried Wings followed suit, each dish distinctly different, yet harmoniously complementing the others.

But the highlight of our visit? The Prawn Cropic, Calamares, and Sushi. Fresh, tasty, and seasoned to perfection, they were the show-stoppers that sent us back for seconds - and thirds!

We also sampled the Plain, Bulgogi, Black Pepper, and Spicy Chicken. Each variety was well marinated and cooked, making us realize why chicken is a staple in Korean cuisine.

Sweetening the deal further were the desserts and drinks. The Watermelon, Sweet Melon, and Buko Pandan were refreshing, while the Ice Cream and Iced Tea offered the perfect respite from Dubai's heat.

Bulgogi Grille’s extensive menu doesn’t skimp on the variety of side dishes either. With eight types to choose from, including a tender, fluffy Steam Egg, the sides are a culinary journey in themselves.

In conclusion, Bulgogi Grille exceeded our expectations. From the food to the atmosphere, the value for money, and warm hospitality, this is a destination that's great for family gatherings and all kinds of events. The Food Trip Team leaves Bulgogi Grille with full stomachs and a resolution to return soon. Highly recommended!

Pork belly lechon. Nakatiyempo po sa West Zone malapit sa Union Mtr Stn sa Deira. Isang hiwa ay Aed21. May tanglad na at iba pang lahok. Pahiran lang asin. Air-fryer lang katapat -- i-set sa 200 ang temperature to run for 20 minutes to 25 minutes; pagkatapos, baligtarin para kabilang side naman. Voila! May pork lechon belly ka na!
