✅THE MOST POWERFUL THING ACTORS CAN DO 🆙🎥❤️
Maxwell Mwape

To call our profession is a bit of a . In fact, the key to acting is not to act at all, but rather to be in a real moment. sounds simple enough, right? No problem. We do that everyday. But alas, therein lies the rub. As actors, we are not tasked with being in the real life that we encounter everyday. We are not purely subjects under observation in our natural habitats. As actors, our is to be while in the presence of an audience and/or film crew, which resembles a real life setting where we are supposed to be. Arguably, an actor’s greatest challenge is to be under the most artificial of circumstances. Being then becomes exceedingly more than it sounds.

In order to be in a real moment that is actually not the current moment, an actor must fully prepare an landscape of that moment. That is to say, you must outline in detail your character’s thoughts, feelings, wants, fears, secrets, , perspectives on the world, views of other people, etc.
A full internal landscape will propel you through the scene, providing the impetus for action so that you are free to do nothing but remain true to your in the moment of the scene. You don’t have to think or try. You don’t have to do anything. The work has already been done in your . This is what it means to get out of your head and to lose yourself in a scene.

Remember in ? Of course you do. What about Denzel Washington in Training day? Yes! And Such truthful and raw moments as these cannot be described as .

These moments are each the result of a fully prepared and realized internal landscape. The actors did the work beforehand and in so doing we knew exactly what they wanted, what they were afraid of, even their exact thoughts and feelings as they had them.
It doesn’t matter that the exact and feelings I saw were perhaps different from those that you saw. What matters is that each of these actors so completely constructed the world in which each of their lived that we too could see that experience reflected through their eyes, well enough to interpret its meaning based on our own experiences.

So is constructing a full internal landscape that it can not only transport the actor beyond the artificial environment of filmmaking, but also transport the audience beyond the mundane reality of sitting in front of a movie screen or TV set .

An internal landscape, on the other hand, leaves both the actor and the audience hanging. It takes the actor out of the reality of the scene and, instead, into the actual current moment of being on display in an setting.

It is impossible to become lost in the scene when you run out of internal material to draw upon and motivate your . You might find yourself trying to come up with a strong choice to make or execute an unjustified movement (big mistake) just to feel like they are doing something in the scene. This is when the can see acting rather than being.
They are not transported into the reality of the scene, but are instead reminded of the actual current moment in which they are simply watching a . They likely won’t be startled if the phone rings or upset if someone passes in front of the screen, because it’s just a movie at that point. But audiences don’t want to see ‘just a movie.’ They watch movies in order to be , to be taken on a journey, to feel and something.
To escape mundane realities. An actor can do all of these things for an audience simply by doing nothing but allowing the full internal landscape that he/she has previously prepared to take over….and that takes courage, practice and lots of deep. This is work, always your art!!

Zambia seeks $8bn debt relief

(Financial Times)

Zambia is asking for more than $8bn of relief on its debts to Chinese lenders, private bondholders and other creditors, according to an IMF analysis, in a restructuring widely seen as a test of Beijing’s willingness to absorb losses on loans it has extended to developing countries.

After securing an IMF bailout last week, Zambia plans to reduce its debt payments by $8.4bn over the next three years, according to a fund analysis that was published on Tuesday. Further debt adjustment is likely later on, it added.

President Hakainde Hichilema’s government secured the $1.3bn IMF loan, two years after Zambia became the first African country to default in the pandemic following what the fund called “years of fiscal profligacy”. The country’s debts quadrupled between 2014 and 2019 amid a surge in infrastructure borrowing under Edgar Lungu, the former president, who lost elections last year to Hichilema.

With Lusaka owing about $6bn of its $17bn in external debt to Chinese lenders, China is its biggest creditor. Beijing’s handling of Zambia’s bailout is seen as a litmus test for how it deals with defaults by other developing economies, such as Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. In recent decades, China has surpassed the World Bank as the biggest foreign creditor to less developed countries. Loans are expected to sour as growth slows and global interest rates rise.

The IMF offered the bailout after bilateral creditors, including Chinese lenders, agreed in principle to debt relief. But Zambia must now negotiate the details of how to restructure those loans, which include $3bn of dollar eurobonds.

Zambia must cut down the amount that it spends on servicing debts from nearly two-thirds of revenues to about 14 per cent in 2025, and it should maintain this ratio for most of the next decade, the IMF said. “This would imply some additional cash debt relief [on top of the $8bn] will be needed over 2026-31,” the fund added.

The “initial read is no big surprise”, said Kevin Daly, investment director at Abrdn and a member of a committee representing Zambian bondholders, though he added that he had expected a larger adjustment over a shorter time horizon.

Lusaka hopes to finish talks with official lenders by the end of the year and will then start talks with private creditors. Zambia will ask creditors to agree to either outright writedowns of debt or to accept an extension of the term of their loan repayments.

Analysts have said that Beijing is likely to favour lengthening the time it takes to repay the debts instead of taking a more visible haircut. Bondholders, who would prefer to take haircuts, have expressed concerns that they will have to sign up to the terms favoured by China.

Chinese banks and other institutions extended loans to Zambia to build airports, roads and other projects that the country struggled to repay as the economy slowed and corruption mounted under Lungu.

In addition to the debt relief, Zambia is bracing for what the IMF called “a large, upfront, and sustained fiscal consolidation” to bring public finances under control. Hichilema’s government has agreed to eliminate fuel subsidies and to cut agricultural subsidies. It has pledged to protect social spending.

Zambia has also cancelled $2bn of mostly Chinese project loans that were in the pipeline and yet to be disbursed. Under the terms of the bailout, the IMF expects Lusaka to limit new external loans to those from concessional creditors, such as multilateral lenders, over the next few years.

CHITOTELA IN HOT SOUP

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has submitted before the Economic and Financial Crimes Court that former Housing and Infrastructure Minister, Ronald Chitotela, was in 2019, not tried by any court on charges of acquiring properties reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.
In this matter, the Commission has filed an application before Court to set aside an out of court order settlement agreement granted by the Commission under the previous management, to have his charges dropped.
Although Mr. Chitotela insists that he cannot be prosecuted by the commission following the said agreement, the Anti-Corruption Commission have argued saying that there was no trial in the earlier indictment against Mr. Chitotela.
In 2019, Mr. Chitotela was arrested by the commission for acquiring properties reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime but never saw the walls of the court after surrendering one property and paid the Commission an amount of 10,000 dollars as part of the settlement agreement.

We wish to congratulate our personal friend of many years Mr. Kelvin Bwalya Fube (KBF), for successfully registering his political party and launching it without any obstacle or restriction. This is the way it should be in a democracy like ours.

We welcome Mr. Bwalya to opposition politics where some of us spent years battling with intolerant regimes.

Looking forward to a healthy public discourse devoid of malice and divisive engagements. In all this, the biggest winner, should be democracy and the people of Zambia.

BANK OF ZAMBIA GOVERNOR GETS PROTECTION

President Hakainde Hichilema has signed into law a new legislation that will protect the Central Bank Governor and his deputies from being fired without valid reasons.

The new law - Bank of Zambia (BOZ) Act No. 5 of 2022 - will require the President to setup a three-man tribunal headed by Judge or former Judge to probe any allegations leveled against the Bank of Zambia (BOZ) Governor or his deputies before being sacked from their positions.

“The President shall remove the Governor or Deputy Governor from office if the tribunal recommends to the President that the Governor or Deputy Governor should be removed,” reads section 13(7) of the Act.

Other two members of the tribunal should be persons with knowledge and experience in the field of central banking or economics, finance, law or any other field that is related to Central bank.

Unlike in the past where President could fire the Governor without reasons, the new law states that Governor and his deputies can only be sacked for “gross misconduct, incompetent, bankrupt” or if he is convicted and imprisoned for a term of not less than six months.

In short, the Governor and his deputies have been given security of tenure like that of the judges and the DPP so that they can perform their functions without interference.

The new BOZ Act came into effect few weeks ago following the assent by President Hakainde. The law was recently unanimously passed in Parliament and was only waiting for the presidential assent to become law.

The new BOZ Act has also put the tenure of office of the Governor as six years, which will be renewable for further term of six years.

The passing of this law follows the Constitution amendment of 2016, which among other things, restricted the position of Governor to few professionals. Under Article 214 of the Constitution, only person who is an economist, banker, accountant, finance or lawyer or a field related to banking can be appointed Governor of

EMIRATES SUSPENDS FLIGHTS TO NIGERIA STARTING FROM SEPTEMBER

Emirates Airlines on has announced the suspension of its flight operations in Nigeria from September 1, 2022.

It says the suspension became necessary following its inability to repatriate its funds from Nigeria.

International carriers operating in Nigeria have repeatedly complained about their inability to repatriate funds to their home countries.

They have raised this concern on many occasions with officials of the Federal Ministry of Aviation, as well as those at the finance ministry.

Blocked funds belonging to these airlines have risen to about $600m, as this is due to the inability of the Central Bank of Nigeria to make the United States dollar available for the carriers to repatriate.
