POLICE have arrested a 72 year old man for allegedly defiling his four year old granddaughter of Chikokonto village in Chongwe District.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said on October 29, 2023 around 22:30 hours a concerned member of the public heard a voice of a girl crying and pleading with the suspect to leave her alone.

He said the victim was left in the custody of the suspect after her mother went out of town for medical attention.

"The concerned member of the public later on decided to inform a community based worker Winfridah Bungali of the same village about the incident.

Together they went to the suspect’s house and forced the door open, the man was found in the act while the victim was still crying. The child was taken to Chongwe District Hospital for medical attention and later to a safe house," he said.

Mr Hamoonga said police visited the scene of crime and secured the place for investigations.

He said the suspect is in police custody and will appear in court soon.

SEAN TEMBO ARRESTED FOR HATE SPEECH

Police in Lusaka have arrested Opposition Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) leader Sean Tembo aged 43 of Ngwerere area in Lusaka in connection with the offence of Hate speech contrary to section 65 of the Cyber-security and Cyber-crimes Act number two of 2021 of the Laws of Zambia.

Facts of the matter are that on October 17, 2023 at 20:31 hours, the suspect posted a hate speech on page under the name of Sean E. Tembo.

Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale says Tembo was served with a call out to report himself to Police Headquarters on October 23, 2023 but he did not show up.

He says police further made efforts to contact his lawyer but the calls went unanswered despite making commitments that they would avail their client to Police.

Mwale says police officers today, around 09:00 hours went to his house where he was requested to come out but instead he opted to lock himself inside the house forcing the officers to have no option but to gain entrance into his house.

He says police managed to pick the suspect and is currently detained in custody yet to be formally charged.

And Police in Lusaka have arrested Stardy Mwale aged 53 of Chinfunshi area in Chililabombwe in connection with the offence of Seditious Practices contrary to section 57 as read with section 60 of the Penal Code.

"Brief facts are that between October 12, 2023 and October 17, 2023, the suspect posted an audio on various social media platforms where he was heard instructing millers in the country to stop the production of mealie meal for 30 days and other sentiments meant to entice the millers to revolt against the government.

"The suspect is detained in custody waiting to be formally charged," he said.

MILES SAMPA IS NOT PF SAYS LUSAKA HIGH COURT

The Lusaka High Court has granted an injunction to the Patriotic Front against expelled member Miles Sampa.

The Court has restrained Mr. Sampa to stop masquerading as a member of the Patriotic Front or as a leader of the Patriotic Front.

In an exparter order, the Court has restrained Mr.Sampa from holding himself as a member of the Patriotic Front or leader of the Party.

Following the suspension of Sampa he proceeded to hold the so-called Extra-Ordinary Conference against the provisions of the Party Constitution.

The party has since expelled Sampa.

The Party has requested that the Speaker of National Assembly declare the Matero Seat vacant immediately.

GRADE 9 PUPIL OF KITWE HANGS HIMSELF.

An 18 Year Old Grade 9 pupil of Mukuba Secondary School in Kitwe District on the Copperbelt has died after he allegedly committed su***de by hanging himself with a rope in his mother's bedroom.

The matter was reported on October, 21, 2023 around 21:00 hours at Wusakile Police Station by Louis Mubanga, aged 23, stating that, his cousin, Shadreck K***a, 18 has allegedly committed su***de by hanging himself using a rope tied to his neck.

And speaking in a statement availed to Mafken FM radio, Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Peacewell Mweemba has disclosed that, the act occurred on Saturday, October 21,2023 between 14:00 hours and 20:00 hours, while his mother and other family members were at church in Ndeke Township and had left the now deceased sleeping at home.

Mr. Mweemba narrates that, upon arrival around 20:00 hours K***a was found hanging from the rafters of the roof of the main bedroom.

He adds that, Mubanga told police officers that, his cousin was at peace prior to the act, revealing that, he stopped attending school of late for unknown reasons.

The Copperbelt Police Chief has since disclosed that officers visited the scene and found that it was tempered, with the body of the deceased already brought down, lying on a bed and the cotton rope he used to commit the act removed from the neck, adding that, the body was inspected for any signs of physical injuries but none was found.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mweemba has since disclosed that, the deceased's body has been deposited into the Kitwe Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination.

FATHER, SON GUILTY OF DEFILING SAME GIRL AS THEY TURN ANGER ON JOURNALIST

THE Choma Magistrate Court has found Joseph Bwalya, 55, and his 20-year-old son, Ben Bwalya, guilty of defilement.

Before passing judgment, Ben was seen outside the Courtroom pointing fingers at Byta FM Court Beat Journalist, Womba Kasela, who was following court proceedings.

Magistrate Ethel Phiri found Joseph and Ben guilty and committed the duo to the High Court for sentencing, noting that the state proved their case beyond reasonable doubt.

Details are that in the first count, Joseph, the Stepfather to the Victim, on dates unknown but between 1st December, 2022 and 31st January, 2023, had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 16.

And in count two, the Stepbrother to the Victim, Ben, on dates unknown but between 1st and 31st July, 2022 had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 16.

The two who were on bail during the start of trial have since been remanded back in custody.

A 26-year-old man of Kanakantapa Resettlement Scheme has killed his wife and later committed su***de after a suspected marital dispute.

Zambia Police Service Deputy Public Relations Officer Danny Mwale said that the incident was discovered on October 15, 2023 around 17:00 hours after one of the Neighbours noticed that the couple was not seen at their farm house since morning.

"This prompted him to check on them and found the house locked but could hear the baby crying," explains Mwale.

"He mobilised other neighbours and together they forced the door open and discovered Dorcas Chirwa aged 20 lying unconscious in a pool of blood while her Seven month-old baby was sucking the breast."

Mwale reveals that the husband was seen hanging on the rafter of the roof.

"Immediately Police were alerted and visited the scene," states Mwale.

"The couple was rushed to Chongwe District Hospital where they were both pronounced dead upon arrival."

Mwale reveals that the baby was handed over to the hospital staff for safe custody.

"Dorcas Chirwa was found with a deep cut on her head and a stool which is believed to have been used in the act was picked by Police officers to help with investigations," adds Mwale.

"The incident is believed to have occurred between October 14, 2023 around 21:00 hours and October 15, 2023 around 16:00 hours."

The couple according to Mwale is said to have had marital disputes and recieved counselling on several occasions.

MARRIAGE DISSOLVED IN CHARMS.
A 37-YEAR-OLD man has told Matero Local Court how he found charms in his wife’s handbag with instructions on a piece of paper on how to administer it on him.
This came to light when Mwenya sued his wife Musonda, 32, for divorce.
He told the court that his wife was given instructions by a witchdoctor to make a concoction and put in his bathing water and food.
Mwenya said his wife had been instructed to get his foot prints, mix them with the charms and add them to his bathing water and food.
“I want to be freed from this marriage. I found charms in my wife’s handbag. When I untied it I found a piece of paper which had some instructions indicating that after I knock off from work, she should get my footprints and mix it with the charms then add it to my food and bathing water,” he said.
Mwenya told the court that his wife did not want any of his relatives visiting their matrimonial home.
He said since 2016 his biological mother and other relatives have never stepped their foot at his house.
In her statement, Musonda denied ever being in possession of charms.
She, however, admitted that her husband was assaulted by her brothers because he called their parents dogs.
In her judgment, Magistrate Harriet Mulenga noted that there was no love in the marriage and granted divorce.
