Simple tasks in the home can give your children a feeling of accomplishment and freedom, aside from learning a new skill. When they ask for something that seems easier to just do yourself, try stop ✋🏻 and help them do it themselves. Placing items within reach in the fridge/cupboards and leaving a step stool in the kitchen might just be the difference between being nagged day in and day out and having them feel a sense of independence and also learning their bodily queues of hunger and thirst. Oftentimes they are asking for snacks and drinks constantly out of boredom and needing our attention and not because they actually need the thing they asked for.

Tired of being your child’s “Snack Slave” and being called on a million times a day to bring them a fruit 🍊🍏🍓???
No??? Only me??? Surely not 😅😵💫
Here’s my tip to help EVERYONE in the house 🤩👏🏻 :
PUT A FRUIT BOWL OR SNACK BASKET WITHIN REACH 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 And the best way to get them to use it goes a lot like this in my house ⬇️
👦🏻 : Moooooommmmm - can you get me a naaaaaartjie 🍊?
👩🏻 : I’m busy right now but you’re welcome to get one.
👦🏻 : But YOU must get it for me 😩😤
👩🏻 : Sorry my boy, Let’s see if you can get one from the fruit bowl before I count to 10? 1… 2…. 3….
👦🏻 : 🏃🏻♂️💨
👩🏻 : Wowee!! 👏🏻 You were SO quick!! You got the fruit before I got to 7 👏🏻🫶🏼 That was really good!
You only have to do this a few times before they just get up quietly and get themselves a fruit which is great for A FEW REASONS 💓⬇️
🍏 It separates those time when they’re just secretly calling out for you to check you’re still around or looking to get your attention and those times when they’re actually hungry and want a snack.
🍓 It teaches them independence and gives them a sense of achievement 🫶🏼
🍊 It allows them to read their hunger cues accurately and distinguish between boredom and hunger. If they really want the food 9/10 times they’ll walk the 8m of “lava” to retrieve the snack.
😮💨 It gives you a few minutes of much needed relief and division of responsibility in the day to day hustle of parenting little people.
Everyone wins 🍷🍇 (the wine is for you and not to be left in reach of kids 😂)
The most scrumptious savoury rice balls ever!
Perfect for babies ~ toddlers ~ teens ~ adults! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Just a girl eating her cereal with a chopstick and no milk, as one does.
Snack idea for toddlers 🥰🥰🥰
Pssssst 👂🏻 If your child is under 5 years old please cut all grapes 🍇 in HALF or QUARTERS before serving 🫶🏼 Grapes are a known choking hazard and need to be served in a safe way 🙏🏻
We like to play “spin the wheel” at dinner time and usually the aim is for the person to try what ever lands in front of them which is great for exploring new foods in a fun way. Other times your one child will take all the strawberries and the other child will claim all 16 meatballs. 😂🫶🏼 But it’s fun and sometimes they’ll surprise you and pick a fistful of lettuce 🥗 (like Emma did). It also opens up a whole new chapter of engagement with your kids, talking about food on the table, laughing about what lands in front of them and challenging them give a new food a chance, with no real pressure.
If there’s one thing I hope you try in the days ahead, it’s to find a fun way to enjoy meal time with your kids. It could be in the following ways :
🍽 pick a box
🍽 spin the wheel
🍽 guess the name
🍽 picnic on the floor/outside
🍽 pick a colour
🍽 dish up for mommy + daddy
🍽 cooking class (let them cook with you)
There are so many ways take the stress away from dinner time and it often starts with packing the phone away📱and allowing your kids to just be kids. Don’t have any expectations and if it doesn’t go as planned, laugh about it and go with the flow. Sometimes letting them lead will bring about some welcomed joy around the table.
Disclaimer : It’s totally normal for one or all of your kids cry when the food they want doesn’t land in front of them 😂 This is a good opportunity to help them work through their disappointment and come up with solutions to get the desired results 🫣😜

The most used tool in my kitchen is hands down my scissors! I reach for scissors ✂️ before a knife 99% of the time. Here are just a few things I used scissors for today! What do you cut with scissors instead of a knife in your kitchen?
I hate wasting food 🥺😫 and with toddlers in the house it feels like a lot of food ends up in the trash 🗑 So I decided to keep all the dried leftovers and make a crunchie granola bar recipe!
Here’s how you make them :
💥Collect the dry leftovers from snacks and lunch boxes throughout the week and store them in a sealed dry bag. I store things like biscuits/cookies, pretzels, rice cakes, cheese crackers, dried fruits, nuts and even added in a few left overs smarties from a party over the weekend.
💥Blend up leftovers along with 1.5 cups of oats and any other add-ins you like, I chose pitted prunes and half a cup of raisins. Pulse blend until you have a nice dry granola mix.
💥 heat up 1 cup of nut butter and 3/4 cup of honey and whisk until smooth. Take off the heat and whisk in 2TSP vanilla essence.
💥Add nut butter and honey to granola and mix well. The mixture shouldn’t be runny(if so, add more oats) or too dry(if so, add more nut butter and honey). Make sure your mixture can form a ball when rolled or pressed.
💥Press your mixture into a lined dish - compress it down hard and compact as possible.
💥Refrigerate for 1 hour and then cut into squares.
💥Store in an air tight container IN THE FRIDGE for up to 2weeks or individually wrap each crunchie bar and freeze for up to 3months.
Enjoy!!! 💗
