Gauteng and Limpopo Premiers in talks on the railway network linking the two provinces Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, on Wednesday, 26 April 2023, met with Limpopo Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha, to further discuss the process of linking the two provinces through a new, faster, and more efficient rail network.
The meeting follows the commitment made by Premier Lesufi in his maiden State of the Province Address in February, to start the process of linking the two provinces.
“Once fully operational, the Limpopo-to-Gauteng rail link will alleviate
the traffic congestion between the two provinces, especially during Easter and Festive holidays. The project will also stimulate economic growth,” said Premier Lesufi.
The rail network will transport commodities for regional and domestic markets as well as people. A joint technical team comprising senior officials from the two provincial governments, and the Gautrain
Management Agency will meet regularly to discuss the modalities of the project. Financial institutions have already shown interest in funding the project. “I wish to thank the Premier of Gauteng for this initiative. As Limpopo, we have been trying to implement this project since 2014 and unfortunately, we were met with financial challenges. I think with the kind of enthusiasm that the Premier is bringing into the project, finally it will kickoff the ground”, said Premier Mathabatha.

❗A BOY CHILD DIES IN SCHOOL BUS ACCIDENT NEAR MAHLOMA ON POLITSI - KGAPANE T-JUNCTION❗
Accident happened at around 20h00, 22 April 2023🕰️
The Bus ferrying school children from School trip allegedly failed to make turn at the Politsi bridge from Mahloma & TZANEEN direction and went straight in the blue gum trees.
It's understood a boy, school child has passed on after the bus plunged into the plantation. About 86 Injured were taken to the nearby hospital for medical attention.
Teachers and few parents who were able to be quick on the scene didn't know the deceased so further identification process will be done at the state Mortuary.
Limpopo traffic Officials SAPS, Forensic Pathologists, towing services, Farm Watch & other security companies were also on the scene.
Authorities are probing the cause of the accident.

DOUBLE LIFE SENTENCES AND COMBINED 48 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDER OF FARMER AND EMPLOYEE.
POLOKWANE: The Polokwane High Court has handed two life sentences and a combined 48 years imprisonment on Lazarus Justice Mohapi(28) for the murder of a Bela-Bela farmer and his employee in 2019.
Mohapi was found guilty of two counts of murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery with aggrevating circumstances, unlawful possession of firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and contravention of Immigration Act(he came to South Africa illegally).
During the trial, the court heard how Mohapi attacked Simon Malebane when he entered his farm in Radium, under Bela-Bela policing area, brutally assaulting and killing him.
He also assaulted and killed an employee on the farm, Daniel Leburu.
The sentences were passed as follows:
Count 1: 10 years imprisonment
Count 2: Life imprisonment
Count 3: Life imprisonment
Count 4: 15 years imprisonment
Count 5: 15 years imprisonment
Count 6: 5 years imprisonment
Count 7: 3 years imprisonment
The court ordered that the sentence in Count 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 shall run concurrently with the sentence in Count 2 and effective sentence is life imprisonment.

MOST WANTED SUSPECT RE-ARRESTED IN SEKHUKHUNE DISTRICT
Members of the SAPS Nebo Tracking Team made a major breakthrough after they re-arrested a 29-year-old most wanted suspect in Jane Furse, Sekhukhune District.
The arrest happened on Friday 14 April 2023 when Lesley Chuenyane was arrested after escaping from police custody in 2018 while being transported to prison in Witbank, Mpumalanga province.
Chuenyane was first arrested in 2018 after he was linked to four counts of r**e committed at Nebo policing area. The suspect was positively linked with the cases through forensic evidence and his victims were between 20 and 30 years of age.
On that day, a group of awaiting trial prisoners allegedly cut through the burglar window of a police van after it stopped at Laersdrift policing area in Mpumalanga province. The other suspects were re-arrested shortly after the incident with assistance of the local farmers but Chuenyane managed to escape and has been on the run since.
It is believed the suspect went on and committed serious crimes at Nebo policing area from 2018 until this year which include robberies and hijacking. He was positively linked to the robbery that took place at Nebo Traffic Department where two security guards were allegedly robbed of their service fi****ms. One of the fi****ms was recovered at the suspect's homestead in Nebo after police were tipped off about its existence. The suspect it is alleged he accosted yet two other security officers at Phokwane Clinic and robbed them of their belongings including cellphones.
The suspect was also linked to an incident in which a traffic officer was hijacked his private motor vehicle at gunpoint. The stolen VW Polo motor vehicle was later recovered after the suspect abandoned it when he was cornered by the police. The suspect also further robbed a female victim of her belongings at gunpoint. The woman is reportedly his former classmate.
