On the 29 August evening an illegal peanut butter manufacturing site was raided in Pretoria, Ward 1. It's alleged the peanut butter was scooped by hand into bottles and that the quality of the ingredients and machinery used was shocking.

The joint special operation took place in Zandfontein 317-JR, which falls in Region 3 of the metro. The role players included the EHPs, SAPS and the Tshwane Metro Police Department. In the case of the illegal premises in question, five fines to the value of R15 000 were issued to the owner/person in charge of the food premises. In addition, the premises were prohibited from operating until all relevant requirements were met.

Ward 1 councilor, Leon Kruyshaar, said the location was masquerading as a church, where the illegal goods were being produced in the back.

Samthing Soweto recently took to Twitter (X) to show disappointment after he was sidelined from credit of being a contributor on the new Amapiano single titled Amalanga Awafani. The song’s production was a collaborative success, with contributions from several talented artists. Mas Musiq and Lawd Weezy, along with DJ Maphorisa and To StarQuality, were credited as the creators of the track.

Dj Maphorisa hit back saying Samthing Soweto ‘s “Isphithiphithi” album was recorded in his studio and they gave him 100% masters for it even though he recorded it at his house and now Samthing Soweto wants master percentage to their songs.

Disgruntled fans called out Dj Maphorisa' to be cancelled in the entertainment industry. This after he shot up trends lists on Tuesday for Samthing Soweto not being credited for their song Amalanga Awafani after its release. The DJ and producer went live on social media, saying Samthing Soweto did not make much effort on the song and was now bullying Mas Musiq.

Residents have expressed frustration over the halt of the new multi-million-rand Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court. 10 years after construction started, the structure remains incomplete with no sign of progress. The project was reportedly stalled after local construction mafias operating around the community violently stopped work on the building.

The unfinished building has raised many questions among residents, who are wondering what the next step for the project is. As reported by the SABC Residents are frustrated as they’re still being catered for at the old court which they claim is dilapidated, crowded and conditions are unsanitary.

The Public Works Department indicated that it is in the process of appointing a new contractor to complete this project. This is as its contract with Fikile Construction was officially terminated in October last year.

The Pretoria Specialized Commercial Crimes Court has sentenced Prishne Khan (37) to 10 years
of direct imprisonment for 63 counts of fraud that resulted in losses exceeding R3 million. In addition to this, she received a further 4-year imprisonment for theft amounting to R350,000, with the court ordering that these sentences run concurrently, resulting in an effective sentence of 10 years in prison.

The court heard that Khan was employed as a bookkeeper at Northern Cricket Union from June 2015 to 18 January 2017, with responsibilities that included processing payments for various service providers. Instead of executing her duties honestly, she altered banking details on multiple invoices, replacing them with those of her husband and cousin and misappropriating R350,000 over six weeks from May to June 2016. When questioned about her actions, Khan resigned
from her position.

Following her resignation, Khan became the finance manager at Customer Loyalty Consultant (PTY) Ltd from 09 March 2017 to 30 September 2017. This role provided her with access to the company’s bank account and banking systems. During her employment, Khan again manipulated customer banking details to funnel payments into accounts controlled by her husband and cousin. Despite her ability to process payments, she could not execute them immediately due to a token needed, which was the responsibility of another employee. After leaving the company in September 2017, another employee provided her with the token, allowing her to release payments totalling more than R3 million to herself from September 2017 until March 2018.

The Pretoria North Magistrates’ Court has sentenced Zimbabwean national Norest Singage (34) to life imprisonment for the murder of a woman and 27 years direct imprisonment for two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances. The court ordered that these sentences run concurrently. Singage's accomplice, fellow Zimbabwean national Rodwin Maphinde (34), received a sentence of 12 years direct imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances. The court heard that on 26 August 2020, the first victim was accosted by a group of men while praying on the R80 Mabopane highway. He was robbed of his cellphone and bank cards. Subsequently, on 12 September 2020, the second victim, along with his wife and children, stopped at the same highway and was approached by the same group. Miraculously, the husband managed to escape and promptly reported the incident to the police. The Pretoria Magistrates’ Court sentenced a Malawian national Mlotha Nelson Usale (59) who is also a pastor of Gods Chappel Church to 10 years direct imprisonment for tempering with essential infrastructure and 8 years each for 3 counts of fraud worth R150 000. The court ordered the sentences should run concurrently with that of ten years. Usale was also declared unfit to possess a firearm. From 2021 to May 2022, Usale ran a syndicate where he would steal batteries from various network towers of Vodacom and MTN throughout the country, interchange the battery management system of batteries to different manufacturers, respray the casings of the battery in an attempt to disguise the true origins of the batteries to make it look like they were commercial solar batteries. Thereafter, he would sell the batteries to unsuspecting consumers by placing adverts on social media platforms under a business called SOLAR MART and SUN SHOP. When an unsuspecting customer purchases a battery, the company would use the services of E-hailing to deliver the battery.

This syndicate was discovered after a complainant bought a battery and it did not work. The complainant then showed the battery to his friend who told him that the battery was a network battery. The complainant then reported the matter to the police, who in return set a trap which resulted in the arrest of two other Malawian nationals on 05 May 2022, who have since been convicted and sentenced to 8 years each on 11 July 2023. The two Malawian nationals then took the police to a storage in Midrand where they kept the stolen batteries where police found 53 batteries. Thereafter the two took the police to the places where they sold the batteries. After the arrest of the two, a warrant of arrest was issued for Usale, however, he skipped the country and returned to Malawi. He was eventually arrested on 25 January 2024 at the Beitbridge border attempting to skip the country again.
