KIRBY VAN DER MERWE VIR 2023 UJ-PRYS GEKORTLYS

Kirby van der Merwe is vir sy boeiende roman,Eugene (Human & Rousseau) geeer.

Eugene, is een van vier titels uit dertien inskrywingsdebute wat vir die gesogte 2023 UJ-debuutprys gekortlys is.

Antjie Krog met Plunder (Human & Rousseau), Johan Myburg met Narreskip (Protea Boekhuis) en Loit Sōls met Moerstaāl (Kwela) is ook gekortlys.

Baie geluk aan die outeurs en uitgewers van hierdie vier boeke!
Die UJ-pryse vir Afrikaans word sedert 2000 jaarliks toegeken aan skrywers van uitsonderlike Afrikaanse boeke. Die UJ-pryse neem Afrikaanse boeke uit die vorige kalenderjaar in ag en sonder graag titels uit wat uitdagend met literêre styl, konvensies of temas omgaan, boeke wat boei en verras.

Kirby van der Merwe is in 1957 in die Paarl gebore. Sedertdien sy kindsbeendae, het hierdie toekomstige bekroonde joernalis en outeur n liefde vir die natuur ontwikkel.
Hierdie voorliefde , sou in die toekoms in van der Merwe se skryfkuns groot inslag vind.

Kirby het vir 'n jaar kunsklasse by die Michaelis-kunsskool geloop en hom later as n onderwyser aan die Hewat Opleidingskollege in Kaapstad bekwaam.

Sy prosadebuut maak hy met die gewilde roman “Klapperhaar slaap nie stil nie” uit NB-Uitgewers se stal.
