THE PERFECT FAMILY GET-TOGETHER TOP TIPS: 1. Think about transforming your „usual“ dining spaces into something a bit more elaborate so that it feels like more of an event for your guests. Ive often visited people, and we always end up at the same table, with the same decor. Mix it up! 2. Be bold and even carry your diningroom table outside onto the lawn and under the stars. Why not. 3. Do something a little wild with your table decor - use something unexpected that will immediately be a talking point for your guests. My mother always makes A4 photocopies of different old photos of whoever is visiting - and uses them as placemats. Everybody gets a different placemat/photo - and it immediately sparks some conversation. Love it. Cheap and so easy! 4. Another fabulous idea, is using some sheet paper as a table cloth - over your fabric table cloth - instead of name tags, write the names (or nicknames) of your guests on the paper. And put a pot with crayons or pens on the table for some doodling and scribbles by your guests. I’ve even framed a few personal notes from a „table cloth“ like this from parties - wine stains and all! `Make memories… 5. Use a console or drinks trolley close to your table?set up for not only drinks, but for any extras you need close to your table - or where a salad bowl can be placed once everybody‘s served up. Makes your life a lot easier having things close by. Don’t forget to also decorate this table! 6. One of the biggest tips: Don’t make any food that requires you to be in the kitchen the whole night! I always cook something where all the big work and prep is beforehand, and easy to keep warm and simply serve up. Nobody enjoys a dinner party where the host is slaving away in the kitchen - be social and learn to be present and enjoy the company of your family and guests .

Getting your entertaining game on, takes a bit of experience and some good planning - but also the right tools to create magic in your home. For most, hosting more than 6ppl feels like a nightmare and stressful - but it needn’t be. So, a good place to start is to get you set up and decorating in line. Don’t wait till the last minute to set up your table and the entertainment area. I always set and decorate my table the day before. It gives you breathing space before the actual day of the event. Start by deciding where you want to set up, and the look and feel you are going with - whether you have a theme in mind. Then, forage through you cupboards and home to find items that can be used as decor. Think out of the box here - i would often even use bigger display bowls for a flower arrangement, I would skip flowers altogether and only decorate with bundles of veggies displayed in glass vases! It’s all about finding inspiration online and saving references for future parties. One of my personal favourite things to do, is setting up in different areas for the different courses: starters outside in the garden, mains at the dining table, and desserts in the lounge. It makes for a more social and interactive experience for your guests - and you can pep each area beforehand to relieve some stress on the day. TOP TIPS: 1. Rainy days in Cape Town - with a home renovation - shew! Lots happening!! Removing tiles to extend the wood. Waiting for the support beams which we will install this week. Exposing the beautiful red brick on the fire place feature. Adding lintel to fireplace to open both side of the fireplace for the main feature. Redoing ceilings and ceiling detail.
