Biotechnology company Moderna is preparing to begin human trials on HIV vaccines as early as Wednesday, using the same mRNA platform as the firm's COVID-19 vaccine.

An entry posted Wednesday to the National Institutes of Health's registry of clinical trials shows that the trials are estimated to start on August 19 and should be completed by spring 2023.

Moderna has two HIV vaccine candidates, mRNA-1644 and mRNA-1644v2-Core, both of which have cleared initial safety testing before being used on humans for the first time. The randomized trials will include 56 HIV-negative participants aged 18 to 56.

Sir Richard Branson said building a hotel off the moon is something he has 'always dreamt of' as he looks to the future after his maiden flight with Virgin Galactic.

The space tourism pioneer and billionaire astronaut said future customers can expect 'a lot more spaceships,' from Virgin, eventually reducing the cost of a trip.

Currently it is thought a ticket to the edge of space with Virgin Galactic, replicating Branson's trip from Sunday, July 11, will cost about $250,000 (£180,000).

Sir Richard said Virgin Galactic's flights may not be the end of his work in space, as the firm plans to build craft that can fly higher and for longer.

At a time when the British government has begun deporting people back to Zimbabwe in the middle of a devastating pandemic, a new Covid-19 variant has been discovered in the UK. Public Health England says so far 16 cases of the variant - B.1.621 - have been confirmed.

The 14 deportees who arrived yesterday are quarantined at the Zimbabwe Institute of Public Administration and Management (Zipam) centre in Darwendale.

The Guardian reported up to 70,000 care home staff in England may leave or lose their jobs because the government is threatening them with loss of employment if they do not submit to the new law that mandates covid jabs.

One carer said she has worked for over a decade in a care home and this is the "thanks" she receives from the govt. She is walking away from her job.

Officials believe between 3% and 12% of care home staff may still resist getting a jab by the end of a 16-week grace period.
