We handle the entire audio post production workflow in-house, from straightforward voiceover recordings to complex sound design and final mixes in both Stereo and 5.1 Surround Sound. Our passion lies in finding that magical intersection where the creative & technical meet. We’re also fortunate to count an extensive network of high profile fellow musicians and producers as part of the Sonar family

and we’re able to leverage their individual skills wherever necessary to ensure we deliver engaging, creative and original work at all times. The relationship between music, sound and picture is our specialty and it's the lifeblood of what we do. We view it as not simply another part of the process, but as integral to the overall immersive experience as the visuals.

New work for GRID Worldwide & FNB 🇿🇦

We were briefed to compose a beautiful and emotive track that starts off with a slightly uneasy feeling and then evolves into being optimistic. The heartbeat provides the rhythmical backbone to the composition, and we had the idea to use a piano note in the key of the song as a musical device to mimic the sound of a heart rate monitor, which ties the music to the concept intrinsically.

Grid provides some context to the campaign as a whole: 'As part of FNB’s Invest and Insure extension, we created a compelling campaign to demonstrate the anxiety that comes with not having your financial matters under control, especially when it comes to planning for your family’s future – a human truth that affects us all. Our content series serves to inspire people to take control of their finances and feel empowered with FNB’s innovative offerings.'"

That’s a wrap!! A heartfelt happy holidays to all. It’s been an incredibly rewarding year and we’re proud of the work we’ve done with phenomenal clients from around the world at Sonar Studios. It was amazing to see so many film projects return to our beautiful country again, and to see the industry alive and kicking. It’s not surprising because we have some of the most talented, skilled and hardworking creative people who all contribute to making Cape Town a world class destination for film and tv.

Sonar is an award-winning audio post production and music composition studio based in Cape Town, South Africa. We’re specialists in sound design, final mix and the creation of bespoke original music for film, tv, radio, animations, video games & branded content. We believe in the intrinsic ability of sound and music to invoke and heighten emotion and this belief is central to our approach.

We care deeply about the work we do because we love it, and we focus on the small little details that will transform work from being good to being amazing. This is inherent in our DNA and we want to be proud of every piece of work that we do.

We believe in facilitating a seamless production process, so we handle the entire audio post production workflow in-house, from straightforward voiceover recordings & dialogue editing to complex sound design and final mixes in both Stereo and 5.1 Surround Sound.
