To understand our plan to fix policing, you need to understand government. Stop allowing others to fool you. Take 3min and get the understanding.

We have three main levels of government. The City of Cape Town is a local government. We control the smaller service delivery issues and attract investments to our City. Roads, facilities , our Law Enforcement and we buy electricity and water from National government and send it on to our local users. These are some of the basic functions we do.

Above us is our Provincial government. Above them is the National government. National controls all the state owned enterprises, like South African Post Office, Eskom, South African Airways, trains (PRASA) and more. They also have COMPLETE control over the South African Police Service.

In South Africa we are ALL (everyone, from the President down to a new-born baby,) bound by the highest law in the land, our Constitution.

In Cape Town, we are saying we can manage and control the local police better than what national government can do. We have already proven it. The Constitution already makes allowance for National government to bestow certain power and control upon lower spheres of government, such as Provincial and Municipal governments (that's us at the bottom!) and this is what we are calling for, when we ask for "devolution."

No far-fetched dreams of independence or separate Provinces. No need to rewrite all the rule books and legislation prescribing governance. Just a simple plan to fix everything, using the law as it stands.

Devolution. Hand over the management of SAPS. Hand over PRASA so we can get our trains working again. And stop the corruption at Eskom that keeps us having to pay more and more.

This is our plan to fix South Africa. And it starts in Cape Town.

Late night MyCiTi bus rides for festive lights event.

The City of Cape Town’s MyCiTi service will operate special late night bus rides for commuters from Hout Bay, Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha for those wanting to attend the switching on of the festive lights on Sunday, 27 November 2022.

‘The switching on of the festive lights in Adderley Street in the Cape Town central business district is a spectacular occasion marking the beginning of the festive season. This year will be extra special as life is returning to normal after the Covid-19 pandemic when we did not have the freedom to get together in big groups. We know this event is extremely popular, and will add late night buses for residents travelling from Hout Bay and the metro-south east,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The last bus trips will depart at 23:15 from either the Civic Centre station, or the station in Adderley Street.

Joint media release: Premier receives progress report from Western Cape Police Ombud on investigation into suspected link between South African Police Service and gangs.

This week Premier Alan Winde received a progress report from Western Cape Police Ombud (WCPO) Major General (Ret.) Oswald Reddy on his investigation into alleged links between officials from the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Western Cape and gangsters.

At the core of this issue are grave concerns that members of the SAPS in the province, among them senior officials, are colluding with gangs, to the detriment of the communities police are meant to serve.

The Ombud has informed the Premier that the probe is at an advanced stage. A team of investigators from the WCPO is considering the bundle of documents relating to the Western Cape High Court judgment which gave rise these disturbing claims. “I have been assured this matter is receiving the attention it deserves and will be finalised as soon as possible,” Premier Winde stressed.

The matter stems from a judgment delivered last month in the Western Cape High Court which stated that there is evidence that top management structures of the SAPS in the province have been infiltrated by gang members. The Premier reiterated: “We must use all the resources available to us, such as the Police Ombud, to get to the bottom of this issue. These allegations horrify me, and we must get answers that will inform our next steps.”

The Premier asked, “Is there sufficient evidence around this matter to warrant establishing a Commission of Inquiry? We will consider our options once the WCPO investigation has been concluded.”

Provincial Police Oversight and Community Safety Minister Reagen Allen said, “We want to assure the residents of the Western Cape that we’ll do everything in our oversight role to address any form of collusion, corruption or criminal activity in the SAPS. The service is required to serve and protect us. This matter is highly upsetting, and we will not stand for it.”
