ROAD STRIPING BEGINS SOON

Districtwide Striping Begins on Monday, July 8
Mobile operation will refresh roadway striping across the district
COVINGTON, Ky. (July 2, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 6 Office advises motorists of districtwide striping operations beginning on Monday, July 8. Contractors will have crews out beginning in Bracken, Carroll, Harrison, Gallatin, Owen and Robertson counties.

This project will consist of contractors striping various routes within the 11 counties in the district: Boone, Bracken, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Harrison, Kenton, Owen, Pendleton and Robertson. Weather conditions and heavy travel causes striping to fade over time. This project will address faded striping to provide safer driving conditions for motorists.

Weather permitting, most work will occur during daytime working hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Routes with higher traffic volume will be completed during nights or weekends to minimize traffic impacts.

Interstate routes will be completed first followed by primary state routes then secondary routes. Striping is a slow-moving mobile operation consisting of a lead vehicle with sweeping capabilities, a striping truck, and a final vehicle with a mounted attenuator warning motorist of the mobile work zone ahead. Law enforcement will assist with interstate striping efforts.

For updates regarding the status of districtwide striping, follow KYTC District 6 Facebook and Twitter accounts and visit our Roadshow to stay up to date on where contractors are striping.

Motorists should slow down and expect slow moving traffic in mobile work zones. Please avoid driving over fresh, wet paint.

The project is being done by Reynolds-Central Seal a Joint Venture under a $3,768,000 low-bid Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contract. Weather permitting, the overall project has an expected completion date of Aug. 15, 2024.

The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists can get Northern Kentucky road construction updates on the District 6 Roadshow. Follow KYTC District 6 on Facebook or Twitter. For Kentucky’s latest traffic and travel information, visit GoKy, TRIMARC, and WAZE.

More upcoming fun at the Grant County Public Library!

Summer Reading Program at the Library Set to Kick Off

The Grant County Public Library is gearing up for its annual Summer Reading Program with a celebrational kick-off event Saturday June 1st from 11 am to 2 pm. Scheduled on a weekend where many Grant Countians will already be out and about, the Library will have a wide array of activities and events for families to pop in and enjoy. Have fun outside in the Bounce House and decorating the sidewalk for Summer, then come inside for crafts, face painting, balloon animals, and more.

But that’s not all. This year, the Library partnered with regional children’s author, Tim Bowers, to create original characters and artwork. Continuing a four-year tradition, Children 10 and under can receive a free tee shirt with all of Bower’s characters printed by Grant County’s own Shirts and Stuff Happens.

“We really enjoyed sharing ideas with Tim, and love the design he came up with” explained Asst Director, Angie Gabbard.

In addition to their regular partnerships throughout the county, the Library is also partnering with the Williamstown Jr and Sr High Schools to help students earn double their reading prizes this summer.

“We want as many students in Grant County to read as much as possible this summer, so we were thrilled to be able to create this new partnership,” said Children’s Librarian, Stephanie Key.

“We’ve been hitting nearly 10-year high usage numbers over the last few months,” said Library Director, Pat Goodman. “In preparation for a potentially big summer, we’re stacking our shelves with great titles for everyone to enjoy.”

Traffic Switch on I-75 Southbound in Grant and Kenton Counties Underway

Traffic down to single lane during overnight hours in project area through Sunday, May 5

COVINGTON, Ky. (May 2, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of a traffic switch on I-75 southbound in Grant and Kenton Counties. Crews began setting up the traffic switch overnight on Wednesday, May 1.

The traffic switch is part of an ongoing resurfacing project on I-75 from mile point 164 (one mile south of the Crittenden exit) to mile point 169.4 (Kenton/Boone County line).

Crews will be switching traffic to the left side of the southbound lanes through Kenton County. Traffic will then flip to the right side of the southbound lanes in Grant County. During daytime hours, two lanes of traffic will be maintained.

Weather permitting, I-75 southbound through the project area will be down to a single lane during the overnight working hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Sunday, May 5, to allow crews space to install a concrete barrier. Crews will open a second lane of southbound traffic at 6 a.m.

Motorists should expect delays during the overnight hours for the next three nights, and should find an alternate route.

Once the barrier wall has been installed, two lanes of traffic will be maintained at all times in the project area. Motorists should expect this traffic configuration to be in place for about one month. KYTC will advise on social media of any additional future traffic switches.

Additionally, the weigh station (168.5 mile point) is now closed for a period of 30 days while crews focus on rehabilitating the outside shoulder, right lane and a portion of the center lane. This weigh station closure is expected to be in place through Saturday, June 1.
