A column that won't rust for centuries:
Delhi is home to an ancient temple, the highlight of which is the Iron Column, or Pillar of Indra, whose history strikes the minds of both ordinary laymen and experienced scholars. The artifact is a column just over seven meters high, about 1600 years old. According to the record in Sanskrit, the column was made during the reign of Emperor Chandragupta II (376-415). But the most amazing thing is that during this enormous period it has not corroded at all.
Studies have shown that the composition of the Indra Column is 99.5% iron, and given the humid Indian climate, he should have long ago corroded through and crumbled. However, even today the column shows no signs of corrosion and looks the same as it did 1600 years ago. And scientists still can not understand how it is possible. Some even put forward versions about the alien origin of the technology.
