The Yamaha MT-10 quickly became a fan favorite when it was released in 2016, thanks to its stable chassis and stellar YZF-R1-derived 998cc CP4 engine that was eager to impress on the streets.
This year, the 2022 Yamaha MT-10 brings a host of refinements to the table without forgetting its street focus. The senior member of the MT family boasts styling tweaks, along with IMU-supported advanced rider aids and Euro 5 emissions updates that manage to improve the riding experience. Lastly, fuel economy is enhanced via slightly longer gearing.
When Yamaha's inline-four-cylinder engine is on-song, few engines can rival that cross-plane tune. The engine is as powerful and punchy as it ever was, providing loads of midrange torque that riders will surely enjoy. A new airbox and exhaust round out the mechanical updates, but new acoustic sound grilles atop the fuel tank let riders hear more of the good stuff from the MT-10.
The same superbike-derived chassis returns with fully-adjustable KYB suspension at each end, ensuring that riders have loads of grip and stability through the curves.
New to the party is an advanced electronics suite borrowed from Yamaha's superbike. The MT-10 boasts multiple power modes, cornering ABS, lean-angle-detecting traction control, slide control, wheelie control, an up/down quickshifter, cruise control, and a new speed limiter function.
Minor ergonomic changes haven't spoiled the party, with the reshaped seat using denser foam and more of it. Still, we're dealing with a motorcycle with a completely neutral riding position.
We sent Senior Editor Nic de Sena to Asheville, North Carolina, where he spent a whole day ripping around iconic roads in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains.
