McMullen Southside Library Hosts Soft Reopening, Continuing Legacy of Community Empowerment
South Valdosta, GA โ February 10, 2024 โ McMullen Southside Library, a longstanding educational pillar in South Valdosta for over 30 years, proudly unveils its newly renovated facilities to the public. This soft reopening marks a significant milestone in the library's history, reinforcing its role as a vital community resource and center for learning.
For many residents, including myself, the anticipation of witnessing the transformation of McMullen Southside Library into a modernized hub of knowledge and community engagement has been remarkable. More than just a library, McMullen Southside Library has been a beacon of opportunity and refuge for generations, especially within the predominantly African American community it serves.
The late Mrs. Beverly Sanders, a revered figure in our community, epitomized leadership and dedication to education. Her unwavering commitment to fostering a love for reading and learning, particularly about history, has left an indelible mark on countless lives. McMullen Southside Library, under her stewardship, hosted numerous events such as the Juneteenth Celebration, community meetings, and various educational programs, including African dance lessons, enriching the cultural aspect of our neighborhood.
The soft reopening ceremony welcomed community leaders, including Joe Brownlee of Georgia Power, Dewayne Johnso, President and CEO of Southern Georgia Black Chambers, Christie Moore, President and CEO of Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce, and MaryBeth Brownlee, One Valdosta Lowndes Director, among others. Their presence underscored the significance of this occasion and the shared commitment to empowering our community through education and access to resources.
