WHAT IS SURBROOK PRESS UP TO?
Read and find out!
First, Surbrook Press attended…
TACTICON 2024
I went to Tacticon to play games and got a chance to try
ALIEN — I played a scenario set on Hadley’s Hope before the events of the Aliens movie. While I didn’t survive scenario, we did get Newt, her brother, and her mom off planet.
MOTHERSHIP — My second try of the Mothership RPG went much better than my first try. I find the game interesting, although potentially lethal. I managed to survive about 90% of the scenario before falling victim to the monster right before the game ended.
OUTGUNNED — Outgunned appears to be an attempt to replicate Hollywood action movies as an RPG. Personally, I feel it doesn’t do anything Feng Shui II doesn’t already does do. It also struck me that you can’t run (for example) Big Trouble in Little China so I am not sure I am going to look into it further.
PROWLERS & PARAGONS: Her Majesties’ Rakes and Scoundrels — This variant of P&P interested me, but sheer exhaustion caused me to drop out early. Since I went to my room and slept for two hours, I think I needed the rest.
PROWLERS & PARAGONS: The Graveyard Shift — I had heard good things about this game so I had to try it, and had a great time. There were only three of us, but it didn’t matter, as the GM adjusted the game on the fly.
PROWLERS & PARAGONS: The Well of the Worlds — yes, I played in a game based on my own setting. And once again, I had a great time. I kept my mouth shut and let everyone else experience the scenario. I also learned some ways to improve the game when I run it, so I certainly need to try it out in the future.
Now, on to Surbrook Press work on products!
First, I sent a Prowlers & Paragons NPC/villain over to Bill Keyes and Harmless Forest Creature Games. He liked the character and it should appear (eventually) in a future Blood & Justice product.
I talked to Jason about Strike Force Organizations and he told me it is in layout. Progress slow is due to the number of character sheets (to be fair, there are a lot). Hopefully it will come out before winter.
I am also working (slowly) in the Fantasy Hero product The Kingdom of Grischun. Progress is slow mostly due to the fact I am considering the magic system and how to present it. I want to get that down before progressing on the rest. I also intend to send Jason content so he can present it to the Hero Games Pateron backers.
I am also working on a second HERO System product. This is Old School Enemies. The idea is to take all of the villain NPCs from Champions 1st Edition, Enemies, Enemies II, and Enemies III, and migrate them to 6th Edition. I have revised the character presentation format several times, but am satisfied with what I have come up with and am now entering characters into Hero Designer, exporting them, and then creating their new character sheets. Be ware there a lot of characters to be developed, so this product will take some time.
If you like the idea of Old School Enemies and would want to see other products collecting old villains and updating to 6th Edition, contact Jason over at Hero Games website.
As for other products —
VOICE of Doom for 6th Edition Champions is up on DTRPG (and the Hero Games store). You can find it here:

I am also slowly collecting art for my next product — an expansion on the M’Larrne product. More NPCs, gear, vehicles, and starships! I am also considering and working on more ideas for the M’Larrne, including some galactic heroes and possible fantasy characters. For you P&P fans, I will migrate the content over in due time. I also will see about Savage Worlds as well.

VOICE of Doom (HERO 6e) - Steve Perrin, creator of numerous RPGs, settings, and adventures, wrote V.O.I.C.E. of Doom for Champions in 1987. This product takes the characters from that adventure and updates them to HERO System 6th Edition. Inside you will find the four members of The Freedom Squ...
