A toasty late summer day but lots of blue above
Mother Nature over-performed a bit today with a high of 87 degrees vs the forecast of 85. Tomorrow, we'll warm further with the mercury climbing into the low 90s.
Those clouds were moving today. 💨🍃 Really though, the wind wasn't too bad with a top gust of 25 mph. After last week's drama and all the damage we suffered, we will happily take that instead. ;-) Tomorrow will be a bit breezy but we will have more sun and highs are going to hit the low to mid-90s. Time lapse from last night's storm... 9:00pm to 11:00pm, one picture every minute. You can see how with a flash of lightning at about 9:40pm, all hail broke loose for about 25 minutes. Happened so fast!
Not too bad of a day today, eh? We topped out at 79 degrees and are headed to an overnight low of 42 degrees. A cold front will be moving in that will cool us down a good bit tomorrow. Look for highs around 60 degrees under partly sunny skies. Tomorrow evening may bring a few, scattered thunderstorms. More: https://www.thorntonweather.com/forecast.php
A look at this afternoon’s western view. A nice day in Thornton as highs topped out at 64 degrees. Tonight, northwesterly flow will develop and a cold front will be pulled in from the north. As a result, clouds will be increasing and tomorrow cools down. Look for partly sunny skies Wednesday with highs in the mid-50s. There will be just a bit of a chance for some drops of rain in the afternoon. Don’t fret though. Warmer weather returns for Thursday and particularly the weekend. March 14, 2024 - Thornton's Pi Day Snowstorm Time Lapse
These are always fun to watch. 24 hours in 1 minute. Time lapse of yesterday's snowstorm. At the start at midnight, rain had just transitioned to snow. You then see the snow continue throughout the day and evening. Thanks to the higher March sun, much of it melted on the roads. In the end, we received 10.8 inches. Not too shabby.
A lot less drama in those skies today versus yesterday. That wave cloud was kind of fun to watch. Thornton topped out at 57 degrees, a good bit more than expected due to the snow cover quickly disappearing. Tonight, will dip to the mid-20s under mostly clear skies. Tomorrow, look for even warmer temps with highs in the low 60s and some slightly breezy winds. More: https://www.thorntonweather.com/
February 27, 2024 - Snow Squall Time Lapse
Four hours in 10 seconds. Showcases partly sunny skies to a snow squall and back again. Crazy fun to see this stuff. Thornton ended up with 2.3 inches in the fast-hitting event.
Fewer clouds than expected allowed Thornton to reach a warmer than expected 69 degrees today. That is our warmest mercury reading since way back on November 16th (71.1 degrees)! We do have clouds now and partly cloudy skies lie in store tonight with a low of 32 degrees. Tomorrow we will still see well-above normal highs reaching the mid to upper 50s. Late in the day / evening, a cold front will move in changing things up. Some rain may be seen in the late afternoon and overnight, perhaps even a touch of snow early Thursday morning. Right now this isn't looking to amount to much at all though. More: https://www.thorntonweather.com/forecast.php
Kind of cool watching that wave cloud build this afternoon. Fingers crossed sunset lights it up. Thornton topped out at 54 degrees, warmer than expected. Tonight, skies will be partly cloudy with lows in the mid-20s. Tomorrow will be mostly sunny with highs in the low 50s.
Some cool cloud motion today including some virga briefly. Thornton Topped out at 51 degrees despite the pretty steady cloud cover. Tonight, look for lows around the freezing mark. Tomorrow we should see similar highs but with more sun. More: https://thorntonweather.com/forecast.php
February 3, 2024 - 24 hour time lapse of our snowstorm
A fun 24 hour time lapse from yesterday. At midnight, we see some rain and that continues until about 9:30am when a fast transition to snow happens. The snow continues until about 3:00pm and then the melting starts.
Pretty much as expected today although the clouds were slow to arrive than expected so that is good. We topped out at a pleasant 51 degrees. Tonight, lows will dip to around 30 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. After midnight, we stand a slight chance to see some snow, better chances after 4:00am and through much of tomorrow. However, we aren't likely to receive much, if any accumulation. Things look to be staying too far south. Highs tomorrow will top out in the low to mid-40s. The weekend will see things dry out and warm up. More: https://www.thorntonweather.com/forecast.php
Quite a nice day today! Lots of blue above and we topped out at 54 degrees. The late afternoon clouds were a bit of a bummer but beyond that, no complaints. Tonight, skies will be partly cloudy and lows will dip to the mid-20s. Tomorrow, mostly sunny skies return with highs around 50 degrees. Webcams: https://www.thorntonweather.com/webcam.php
Satellite imagery showing the low pressure system spinning over western Kansas and pushing back into northeastern Colorado. We are starting to see the clouds from it right now here. The northeastern corner of the state will experience nasty, blizzard conditions. Here, along the Front Range, some breezy winds can be expected this afternoon and evening and overnight, maybe a dusting of snow. After a cloudy start, pretty skies this afternoon as we reached a high of 60 degrees. Keep an eye to the west this evening. Might see a good sunset (fingers crossed!). Tonight, clouds will return a bit and lows will dip to 32 degrees. Tomorrow will bring conditions and temps almost identical to today. We continue to watch the coming storm and things are still very much up in the air. As we said yesterday, we do have a good chance to have accumulating snowfall from Saturday PM to Monday. There is a slight chance or a significant event. Stay tuned! Webcams: https://www.thorntonweather.com/webcam.php
Clouds put a bit of a damper on Monday. We figured there would be some clouds but that mountain wave setup and really obscured things. Thornton did reach 52 degrees but it may not have felt like it. Tonight, look for mostly cloudy skies to continue with lows around freezing. Tomorrow, we should see more sun and high temps pushing the mid-60s. Satellite imagery: https://www.thorntonweather.com/national-satellite.php
A warmer day than expected thanks to us having less cloud cover than we thought we would have. Thornton topped out at a comfortable 56 degrees. Now, however, clouds have moved in and the mercury is on its way down. We stand just a slight chance to see some precipitation after about 6:00pm. If it comes, it may initially be rain then transition to snow. After midnight, the dreaded freezing drizzle becomes a possibility. There isn’t a lot of moisture to work with so no matter what form it takes, we aren’t expecting much. Look for overnight lows in the mid to upper 20s. Tomorrow will be kind of dreary with cloudy skies and highs only in the mid to upper 30s. More: https://www.thorntonweather.com/
