10/13/2021

The WCRA (World Champions Rodeo Alliance) and PBR (Professional Bull Riders) today announced that the largest payout event in the history of Women’s Rodeo, the Women’s Rodeo World Championship (WRWC), will move to Fort Worth, Texas, starting in May 2022.

The relocation and dates will go into effect immediately after the 2021 WRWC which will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, at South Point Arena Oct. 26-29.

The championship event will be split between The Historic Cowtown Coliseum and Dickies Arena. The first three rounds of competition will be at Cowtown Coliseum May 16-17, with the final two rounds held at Dickies Arena in conjunction with PBR World Finals. 2022 Women’s Rodeo World Champions will now be crowned in the same arena as the PBR World Champion.

“We are ecstatic about this forever home for the WRWC in the heart of cowboy country as we continue to change the landscape of women’s rodeo offering the world’s largest payout in the history of women’s rodeo and showcasing these atheltes to the world on national television broadcast,” said WCRA President Bobby Mote. “Ushering in this new era of women’s rodeo at an event with this level of payout and visibility is something we take great pride in.”

At the inaugural event in 2020, four women became the first in history to claim the coveted title of Women’s Rodeo World Champion and took home a minimum of $60,000 each while the All-Around Champion collected a $20,000 cash bonus. The championship event dished out equal money in all disciplines and cut checks to more than 250 female athletes.

WRWC is the largest annual purse for a women’s rodeo event and will again payout $750,000 in 2021 while crowning World Champions in the Women’s Rodeo disciplines; Team Roping, Breakaway Roping and Barrel Racing. An all-around champion will also be crowned.

Athletes have two opportunities to earn a position to the event: The WRWC Leaderboard or through a WRWC Qualifiers Series event.

WRWC is a culmination of a leaderboard race of rodeo events worldwide for female rodeo athletes at both the Pro and Challenger levels. Athletes can qualify by nominating their rodeo efforts and earning points for the 2022 WRWC leaderboard positions using the VRQ (Virtual Rodeo Qualifier). Athletes have until April 17, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. to nominate and earn points. The top 20 on both the Pro and Challenger leaderboards will qualify for the event. Nominations are open now.

In addition to the leaderboards, athletes can earn a generic qualification to the WRWC by participating in a Qualifier Series events. The Qualifier Series is a string of events held prior to the 2022 WRWC where athletes who nominate and place in the top spot in their respected discipline at the qualifier will earn a generic qualification to the 2022 WRWC. All 2022 WRWC Qualifier Series events will be announced in the coming weeks.

More information about the event including payout, and format can be found at womensrodeoworldchampionship.com or contact [email protected].

Last Saturday, October 9th, was the annual Mainstreet Uncorked: Wine and Music Festival. Wine Vendors from all over Texas had set up to offer samples and tastings of their different types of wines. There was every type of wine you could imagine-dry, sweet, red, white, fruity, heavy...if you wanted to try it, a vendor had it!

There was even a judging to determine the best of the best wine vendors that closed at 6pm.
The Wine-winners were:
1. Phinesse Farms from Sulphur Springs, TX
2. Texas South Wind Vineyard from Refugio, TX
3. Los Pinos Ranch Vineyard from Pittsburg, TX

With 150 pre-registered attendees, and an estimated 500 day-of attendees, Mainstreet Uncorked was a huge success! People sampled wines and shopped at the local booths. Vendors had cute jewelry, trendy clothes, honey, and even some wood-working!

The music acts were also hits. Matthew Fiock, Lincoln Goodman, and Twisted Whisky had the crowds dancing in their seats and singing along. One couple running a jewelry booth, got so into the music they started slow-dancing in the street!

Mark your calendar for next year! This is an event you don't want to miss!

"Many of us have a forlorn drawer somewhere that’s full of old batteries, cables and [electronic] gadgets that haven’t been touched in years.

That stuff might look like junk, but don’t be fooled: Some of it is potential e-waste, and the last thing you should do is toss it in the trash.

Many of your old phones and tablets are packed with components containing rare metals that are difficult to find and pull out of the ground. Other kinds of e-waste, such as rechargeable batteries, often contain chemicals that could pose problems for the environment or human health."

Tech reporter Chris Velazco has tips on how to repurpose your old electronic devices:

Savannah in the Morning show is asking for your help! Her family friend Steve needs a kidney.
In 2017, Steve was diagnosed with a renal disease called focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). Basically, it’s scarring of the glomerulus (filters) in the kidneys. The disease progressed very slowly, but in 2021 it picked up speed which led to renal failure.
Steve started dialysis in the middle of August. Basically, dialysis is a medical procedure that assists in the process of cleaning impurities out of your blood when your kidneys can no longer do it effectively and need assistance. Dialysis is a difficult and time-consuming process but allows Steve to live an active lifestyle as he waits for a match.

He is on the transplant list but that list is over 100,000 people. And that is why we are asking for your help. His best option is a live donor, and we are hoping we can find his match soon.

Kidney donation is a huge ask, but saving a life is the greatest gift of all. Kidney donation has progressed to a minimally invasive surgery with a quicker recovery time. And the best part is all the costs of the kidney donation will be covered by Steve’s insurance.

10/06/2021

In mid-December, WCRA (World Champions Rodeo Alliance) will bring world-class rodeo back to Texas with the four-day Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo in Fort Worth at the legendary Cowtown Coliseum Dec. 15-18.

The landmark event will begin on Wednesday, Dec. 15, showcasing more than 200 athletes competing in each of the nine rodeo disciplines: ba****ck riding, women’s breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping heading, team roping heeling, tie-down roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. A collective $360,000 will be on the line, and each champion will be awarded a check for $12,500.

“This is the most diverse collection of athletes the rodeo industry has ever seen,” said WCRA President, Bobby Mote. “From schoolteachers, to ministers, to retired Las Vegas trick riders and athletes returning from the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, our base of athletes is larger than any one rodeo organization in the world.”

The Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo will be the final of three Major events comprising the 2021 WCRA Triple Crown of Rodeo. The WCRA Triple Crown of Rodeo is a trilogy of Major rodeos offering a $1 million bonus to any one athlete or collection of athletes who win first place in any three consecutive majors. The first stop of the 2021 series was held in Corpus Christi, Texas followed by an event in Salt Lake City.

Those athletes who were victorious in Salt Lake City at the Days of ’47 Cowboy Games and Rodeo, who will be looking for their second win to remain Triple Crown eligible are: Clayton Biglow (Ba****ck Riding), Tanner Green (Team Roping- Header), Tyler Waguespack (Steer Wrestling), Tacy Kay Webb (Breakaway Roping), and Ryan Jarrett (Tie-Down Roping).

The Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo begins with performance one at 7:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Dec. 15 and will continue nightly through the final performance on Saturday Dec 18. Eight athletes per discipline will go head-to-head in the long rounds (December 15-17) with the Top 2 rides/runs from each performance advancing to the Triple Crown of Rodeo performance on December 18.

Tickets for the WCRA event are on sale now and start at $30, taxes and fees may apply. They can be purchased at the Cowtown Coliseum Office, online at cowtowncoliseum.com or PBR.com, and by calling The Cowtown Coliseum at 1-888-269-8696 or PBR Direct at (800) 732-1727.

MORE THAN 500,000 LEGOS® USED TO CONSTRUCT 20 ICONIC SKYSCRAPERS IN PEROT MUSEUM OF NATURE AND SCIENCE’S TOWERS OF TOMORROW EXHIBITION.

The eye-popping exhibition, presented locally by Highland Capital Philanthropies, features LEGO re-creations of architectural wonders including Burj Khalifa (the world’s tallest building), the Empire State Building and many more; plus kids and adults can create their own towers using more than 200,000 bricks

DALLAS (Sept. 14, 2021) – The Perot Museum of Nature and Science’s newest exhibition –Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks – will feature 20 iconic skyscrapers from across the globe constructed over 2,000 hours with more than half a million LEGO® bricks. From the world’s tallest building to the Empire State Building, the architectural wonders are constructed by Ryan McNaught, one of only 21 LEGO certified professionals in the world. All ages can get creative as they build upon a growing LEGO installation using thousands of the popular colored bricks. Presented locally by Highland Capital Philanthropies, Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks makes its Texas debut Friday, Sept. 24, and runs through April 24, 2022.

“In our commitment to inspire minds through nature and science, the Perot Museum strives to bring in engaging exhibitions that spark those ‘ah-ha’ moments,” said Dr. Linda Silver, Eugene McDermott Chief Executive Officer of the Perot Museum. “Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks is a hands-on experience for all ages and a fun way to cultivate that crucial interest in STEM.”

Among the towers on view will be the Barangaroo Hotel Crown Resort in Sydney; Burj Khalifa in Dubai; Bank of America Plaza in Atlanta; 111 West 57th Street, Central Park Tower Building, Chrysler Building and Empire State Building in New York City; CN Tower in Toronto; Eureka Tower in Melbourne; Infinity Tower in Brisbane; International Commerce Tower in Hong Kong; Marina Bay Sands in Singapore; N Seoul Tower in Seoul, Korea; Petronas Towers in Malaysia; Q1 in Queensland; Shanghai Tower in Shanghai; Taipei 101 in Taiwan; Tokyo Skytree in Tokyo; Willis (Sears) Tower in Chicago; and Wilshire Grand Centre in Los Angeles.

“Highland Capital Philanthropies believes children learn best when they are having fun, which is why we are proud to support the Perot Museum’s effort to ignite STEM learning in our youth through this new exhibition, which showcases iconic skyscrapers from around the world – all constructed with LEGO® bricks,” said Lucy Bannon, Highland Capital Philanthropies communications director. “We’re especially excited about the hands-on experiences offered as part of the exhibition, which give guests the opportunity to construct their own buildings and in turn gain a deeper understanding of the ingenuity of these engineering feats.”

After interacting with the intricate structures, guests are encouraged to head to the construction areas, which are equipped with more than 200,000 LEGO bricks, to create their own ‘tower of tomorrow.’ All ages can channel their inner engineer by adding their creations to a steadily rising futuristic LEGO masterpiece displayed within the exhibition.

Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks is a travelling exhibition from Sydney Living Museums and toured internationally by Flying Fish.

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that up to 5.8 million peopleTrusted Source in the United States live with Alzheimer’s disease.

Alzheimer’s disease is a neurodegenerative condition affecting parts of the brain associated with memory, thought, and language. Its symptoms range from mild memory loss to the inability to hold conversations to environmental disorientation and mood changes.

However, scientists in Australia have recently discovered an additional factor that may be responsible for the development of this neurodegenerative condition.

Lead study author Dr. John Mamo, Ph.D. — distinguished professor and director of the Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute at Curtin University in Perth, Australia — explained to Medical News Today the conclusion from the new research.

“This study,” he added, “shows that exaggerated abundance in blood of potentially toxic fat-protein complexes can damage microscopic brain blood vessels called capillaries and, thereafter, leak into the brain, causing inflammation and brain cell death.”

“[Changes] in dietary behaviors and certain medications could potentially reduce blood concentration of these toxic fat-protein complexes, [subsequently] reducing the risk for Alzheimer’s or [slowing] down the disease progression,” he concluded."

Recent research in mice turned to the blood-brain barrier for clues as to why Alzheimer's disease occurs and how to stop it.

"Death’s come knocking a last time for the splendid ivory-billed woodpecker and 22 more birds, fish and other species: The U.S. government on Wednesday declared them extinct.

It’s a rare move for wildlife officials to give up hope on a plant or animal, but government scientists say they’ve exhausted to find these 23. And they warn climate change, on top of other pressures, could make such disappearances more common as a warming planet adds to the dangers facing imperiled plants and wildlife.

The ivory-billed woodpecker was perhaps the best known species the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service declared extinct. The woodpecker went out stubbornly and with fanfare, making unconfirmed appearances in recent decades that ignited a frenzy of ultimately fruitless searches in the swamps of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida."
