Here's the latest piece from our studio. The sky is our canvas. :)
Perhaps your mother told you never to stare at the sun. Well, now you can. This is a compilation of time lapse sequences shot straight up into the sky. All the…
Here's the latest film from our Timespace series, in collaboration with Erlandson Photography. Sit back, relax, and watch the world breathe for almost twenty minutes. Enjoy nature's Rorschach test. What do you see? https://thewolfbird.com/2022/timespace-hidden-lake-spring-2022/
Watch Timespace: Hidden Lake Spring 2022, for several days and nights of timelapse on Hidden Lake in Alleghany County, during early May 2022.

For a variety of reasons, we're putting together some demo reels of the timelapse motion work we've done over the last few years. Here's the first one, all 1080p work done between 2019-2020. Be sure to watch on a big screen with the volume turned up! https://vimeo.com/713877232
Another animation project we've started as we closed out 2021, called Look Up, creating long form expressions from an alternative perspective.

Our first Vimeo On Demand animation series is now LIVE!
All four episodes are available for rental or purchase at very reasonable prices (starting at $1 an episode!).
You can watch a trailer first to make up your mind. :) https://vimeo.com/ondemand/fantaisiesimpromptu01
This is a series of experimental short animations, both improvisational and interpretive, serving as variations on a theme for a single piece of music, in this case…

And, yet another line of experimentation we've got going on here at The Wolfbird: reflection tests for various forms of timelapse. This is just the beginning. We're using old 1080p footage at this point, but we're headed for 4K soon, and there's no telling what we'll be able to come up with. We're tweaking various forms of speed and interval, as well as how to compose shots to take advantage of the possibilities for reflection. https://vimeo.com/655077502/86897bd9e8
Just trying out a few effects to create a particular look and method for more timelapse creation options...

We're still experimenting with defocused hyperlapse as a form of painting, and we've upped our game to 4K from 1080p. This is the same music from Chopin, and it's the next (No. 01) in what we hope to be a long interpretive series of this music.
We've still got some tweaking to do before we consider Fantaisie Impromptu, No. 01 to be complete. What do you think so far? https://vimeo.com/655047658
This is another compilation of defocused hyperlapse footage captured in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and set to the music of Frédéric Chopin, in this…

Here's another avenue of experimentation we're exploring here at The Wolfbird: using hyperlapse as a form of painting. This one is set to music composed by Frederic Chopin.
It's an assemblage of HD1080p footage, and any future explorations will be in 4K, most likely, unless the equipment can't handle it. We'll see. https://vimeo.com/thewolfbird/fantaisie-impromptu-00

Google Earth Studio: Stone Mountain Sunrise Test
We've been playing around with our early access invite to Google Earth Studio, and here's a quick flyby we slapped together today. It's a fake sunrise timelapse of Stone Mountain, just below the escarpment in Alleghany and Wilkes counties of North Carolina.
We're pretty fascinated, to say the least. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Or the mountain. :)
We've been working with Erlandson Photography to test out the use of spheres in time lapse animation for understanding and appreciating alternative perspectives as part of the Postropolis Deep Shifts project.
Check out this test clip at 15fps. Recognize the spot?

A little behind the scenes look on set for Monster News Feed. Day 2 of production. :)

We've been troubleshooting a technical issue with one of the cameras, and we think we've got it figured out.
A nice side effect of the process was this nifty time lapse animation of some wind chimes.
A little more testing to do as the week progresses to make sure, but we're feeling optimistic... :)

The Wolfbird Studios: Behind The Scenes
We're putting together a blog post, but we couldn't wait to show off this behind the scenes time lapse video of some test animations we did in Studio Huginn at The Wolfbird this afternoon. The more we use Stop Motion Studio Pro on the Google Pixel 2, the more we like what we see.
Mushroom, Stones, and Coins, Oh My!
Today I got to pretend to be a kid (or kid at heart) and see what it would be like to participate in one of the Animate That! animation workshops. This is the video I made this afternoon using the same equipment that will be available in the workshops.
I was testing a more scientific approach to shooting the mushroom for another project The Wolfbird is cooking up, and suddenly I decided to grab a few other objects I had laying around so I could shoot a 15 second video. I did this really quickly, and it took about 20-30 minutes.
With a few differences in set design, this is basically exactly what kids and adults will do in the Animate That! introductory workshops. It's gonna be SO FUN!!!!! :)
The Wolfbird is an animation studio in Sparta, North Carolina. We want to help people learn about the world around them.
What is the wolfbird? The wolfbird is the common raven. Corvus corax. Since before human observation and recorded history, the raven and the wolf have had a long history working together, helping each other.
The raven alerts the wolf to the kill.
Then, the ravens partake in the feast with and after the wolves.
There’s more: Apparently, the Vikings and the wolves and the ravens had similar interactions, forming a history together based on spontaneous working relationships.
At the studio we’re building in Sparta, up here above the escarpment in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, we hope The Wolfbird embodies a similar collaborative core.
Join us. Let’s create together! Living learning, animated.
