The Gold Circle (50+ years) and The Silver Circle (25+years) are open to all who have extensive careers in television, either in performing, creative, technical or administrative role within the industry or in a peripheral area directly related to television, such as commercial, production, journalism or education.

Each year, the membership of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences - Michigan Chapter elects new professionals with a rotating Board of Governors to represent the Michigan community. While best known for The EMMY® Awards and Silver Circle, which recognize outstanding achievements in our industry, NATAS Michigan presents an array of other exciting events available to our membership.

The Michigan Chapter is in search of people who are as passionate about media as they are about giving back to the professional community. The Board of Governors is a working board, which simply put, means we work together collaboratively to ensure we are providing for the best interests of the membership.

Calling all those who are interested in making the Michigan Emmy® Chapter the best possible! This is an opportunity to make sure your station, production company, organization and/or market is well represented.

Submit: Your nomination by Wednesday, July 3, 2024 to Jayne Hodak at [email protected]

Requirements: Must be a current member, in good standing.

Process:
- Nominate yourself or someone else.
- Email your nomination to [email protected] with a brief biography and photo for the ballot.
- Vote! New Governors will be announced at the end of July 2024.

Commitment: Board members must attend monthly meetings in person, zoom or conference call. Board members serve a two-year term through August 2026.

Qualifications and Requirements as a NATAS-MI Governor
1. Must be a NATAS Michigan Member for a minimum of one year prior to election.
2. Active committee participation prior to nomination is recommended.
3. Attend a minimum of one board meeting per month.
4. Board term lasts for two years.
5. Judge Student Production and EMMY® Award categories when needed

Voting starts in July!

The nominees have been revealed for the 2024 Student Production Awards, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences - Michigan Chapter!

Winners will be revealed at an awards presentation held April 28 at 12:30 PM, at the MSU Communication Arts and Sciences Building.

In addition to the awards ceremony, there will be "Meet the Pros" breakout sessions where students can interact with broadcast journalism and production professionals who work in news, sports and documentary production in a series of Q&A sessions.

We're proud to announce James Brown will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 45th Annual !

Brown is a three-time Emmy Award-winner, best known as host of pregame shows including CBS Sports THE NFL TODAY, NFL on FOX and INSIDE THE NFL.

Brown has hosted the Super Bowl a record-setting 12 times and also served as a special correspondent for CBS News on such programs as 60 Minutes and CBS Evening News.

“I am incredibly humbled by this award,” said James Brown. “I know full well that it's not as much about me as it is about all the people with whom and for whom I worked over all these years. Thank God for the blessing!”

We're adding another opportunity for High School students to be recognized!

We've added a Live Sporting Event/Game Entry (H-23), where high school students can earn recognition for outstanding achievement in the production of a live or recorded live sports event or game.

As a reminder, entries must have been produced in the Michigan NATAS region during the eligibility period March 1,2023 to February 28, 2024, and must be submitted by Feb. 28.

Let us help pay for your student tuition & books for college! We offer scholarships to students majoring in journalism, media broadcasting or video production at an accredited post-secondary educational institution. Competitive grants are offered to Michigan high schools (specifically their Broadcast-Film Classes) to help support equipment purchases.

Grants are open to state accredited Michigan high schools (public or private), as well as college/university sophomores, juniors, seniors and/or graduate students living or attending an accredited school in the Michigan area.

3 - HIGH SCHOOL Grants $1,500
(Award goes to the High School for equipment and improvements)

Undergraduate Scholarships - $3,000
Graduate Scholarships $4,000

Awards goes to students pursuing and enrolled in a degree program in broadcasting, video production, post-production and media at an accredited college or university (including community college).
