I don’t know why I put this off for so long but I’m happy to say that I have officially joined the as a voting member! I have no idea what will come of this, or how it will shape my future plans but It feels like the perfect way to transition into the next chapter of this journey I have been on.

I’m fast approaching my 10 year anniversary of working as a professional mastering engineer, and I’m excited to use that experience to help shape the music industry any way I can!

Revisions update: I’ve decided to increase to 2 free revisions with every project! Most of the time V1 is good to go, sometimes V2 is needed, and on rare occasions people want to get really detailed with a V3 master. I don’t want to deter anyone away from those fine-tune tweaks because it costs more. Sometimes V3 masters are a big improvement so I’m giving you all that opportunity for no additional charge moving forward.

Everything else is the same!

2024 Progress Report: I always take time to assess how things are going halfway through the year with projects, goals, milestones, etc. “What gets measured gets managed.”

Highlights:
> Hind’s Hall is charting all over the world, and Kendrick robbed us of a #1 on billboard! 😭 Jokes aside, it’s pretty special to see that one doing so well and acting as an anthem for change. 🙏🏻

> Just passed 300 million lifetime streams (excluding Apple Music) for everything I have mastered! I know it’s not much compared to bigger engineers out there, but considering I only work with independent artists right now, it’s a pretty incredible number!

> Remote expansion is gaining momentum! Really close to my goal of 50% Seattle/50% everywhere else.

> Business is up on average 30% YOY right now. It’s been a really impressive year of music so far. Possibly the best I’ve seen in the nearly 10 years of doing this.

Thanks for reading! I don’t really like showcasing the “best moments”. I try to do it in a way that inspires others to keep driving forward on their dreams. I almost gave up on mine several years back but gave it another chance and things started progressing in the right direction. Doesn’t happen overnight, but stay determined and things eventually start to exponentially build. 👌🏻

Stoked to be apart of the next chapter of ! These guys hit the ground running almost 10 years ago with an incredibly successful debut album (LOVETAP!), and in my opinion this brand new single “Night Shift” is a nod toward the sound/vibe that put them on the Map! Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the project unfolds next year!

We got the number 1 spot on list of the best albums of 2023! The craziest thing about it is LINDENAVE! was the debut album… If this is how it starts, I’m even more excited to see the progression over the next few years. 📈📈

Congrats to everyone involved, too many to tag right now but you all know who you are!

On a personal note it’s an honor to have worked on projects that have made the list two years in a row now. It makes me think back to 10 years ago when I was struggling to get established, and now I’m helping the next generation of artists make a name for themselves in the local community! 🙌🏻

When a song breaks away from the typical structure and predictable formula it’s something to pay attention to. If you break the rules in creative ways and it works, it leaves an impression. That’s exactly the case with latest single “shawshank”.

There’s something about this song that makes it feel and sound so different and unique. A verse extending over 1:20 seconds, textured and soulful sounding hooks, a Sax solo, and my personal favorite, creative use of samples from one of my favorite films “Shawshank Redemption” which help tie in the overall theme and message behind the lyrics. By far one of my favorites of the year! More on the way. 🤫

I’ve branded myself as the ‘Pop/Hip-Hop’ guy over the past few years as a strategic move but that doesn’t mean I can’t work with all genres… “Riots” by is the perfect example of some heavier rock/metal I have done more recently! A goal of mine for next year is to expand further into heavier styles like this. If you are an artist/band making similar music let’s chat about putting on the finishing touches.👌🏻

never disappoints with the sad songs! “Half-Life” is the perfect example. Sad songs are tricky to do right. The biggest mistake I hear people making is over producing them and masking what matters most, the lyrics, performance and message. Less is more. If the songwriting is strong and powerful, then let it stand on its own with just enough production to create dimension and movement in each section. This one checks all of those boxes.👌🏻 Available on all platforms!

is quite the songwriter! She normally co-writes for other artists but decided to keep this one for herself. “Just a Kid” is a really nice ‘coming of age song’ with immaculate production and a rich/detailed/dimensional mix! Available everywhere you stream music!

I share this every year right before summer arrives because summertime is the busiest time of year for new music releases. If you have a release coming up make sure you are giving your team the credit they deserve. It helps us grow our services and it also makes it easier for other artists in the community to know who are the best people to work with for their next project.

Until streaming services get their sh*t together and add full album credits, social media posts are the best place to include full production and visual credits.

This is an easy template to follow. The most important thing is to list out the roles and who did what. Don’t just tag everyone on the post. That doesn’t help anyone know who did what, which is the most important aspect of an album credit.

We didn’t get to #1 but an independent release landing a position on any Top 40 chart is certainly worth highlighting, especially considering Anna’s budget was a pin-prick in comparison to what major labels spend on mainstream releases.

There’s a lot that went into this but long story short, Anna kicked down a door that’s almost always locked up by the majors. Momentum started to build and she landed her song on nationwide radio several weeks in a row, eventually finding its way on the Top 40 Indicator chart alongside some of the biggest artists in the industry.

This is a win for all the independent artists in the Seattle music scene and proof that it can be done without a label. 👌🏻 It just requires research/dedication towards marketing, advertising, and above all, a well written song crafted by the best producers/engineers that the budget allows for.

This is where all the magic happens! I’ve been mastering on headphones for 6 years now. Two years ago I made a big upgrade to these LCD-4 headphones, one of the best pairs on the market today, and easily the best $4000 I’ve ever spent.

In my early years I fumbled around with trying to master projects in small rooms with poor acoustics and cheap monitors. It didn’t work well and I remembered a mentor of mine always told me to “learn to fail fast”. Meaning the faster you fail the sooner you will succeed.

Having identified that my room/monitoring was a failure, I decided to pivot to a more unconventional approach which was eliminating the poor room/acoustics/monitoring all together and working directly on high quality headphones. It took some time to get used to but eventually it clicked and I started getting way better results because I could actually hear what was happening in the music.

Working solely on headphones certainly has its challenges, but once you understand the limitations and learn to work around them you can get phenomenal results!

It’s been an incredible year of Hip-Hop/Rap projects! More to come! If you are a Hip-Hop/Rap artist and we have not worked together, let’s chat about making your next release sound the best it can be. If you are on the fence about outsourcing professional mastering, hit me up for a free test master so you can hear what I can do for your music.

Based on my observations many of the local/regional Hip-Hop/Rap artists are skipping professional mastering all together and just having their mix engineer throw basic loudness processing on their final mix because they think they don’t need mastering, or don’t know what mastering is and why it’s important. This is a missed opportunity to get a project sounding even better before the release, especially considering many artists are still working with generic mp3 beats downloaded online.

If you are not sending your engineer the proper track-outs or stems, then you need professional mastering more than ever. This is because the mix of the beat downloaded from YouTube or other online sources is often times low quality and quickly thrown together just to give you the overall sound/vibe of the beat.

It is still possible to have a great sounding song/project with basic mp3 beats, but if you are making music this way you should get as many ears on the project as possible so that you walk away with the best possible sound and quality.

It all comes down to investing in yourself, your music, and your career!

Haven’t shown my face in a while so here I am to tell you that I have officially lived in Seattle for 10 years! That went by quick! It’s wild to think that 10 years ago I had no clue what I wanted to do, I just knew it had to be something related to music. I left every comfort I knew and moved out of state to attend the Art Institute of Seattle for my degree. It was a terrifying change but absolutely the right move looking back on it now.

I think the biggest learning lesson over the last 10 years has been to have patience and trust the process regardless of what I am working towards. I have no idea what the next 10 years will look like but I know I have a strong foundation at this point, and I am surrounded by an amazing support system of family, friends, and clients. I guess I’ll just say, “To be continued” 😉

It’s that time of year when new music releases are popping off left and right each week. Be sure you are giving credit to everyone involved with making your music dreams a reality.

I first posted this a few years back and it has been incredible to see everyone putting this template to use! Thanks to everyone who is already doing this and leading by example! . .

I wanted to share a quick and easy template that artists/musicians can reference when creating their social media new music announcements.

Unfortunately, there is a popular trend forming with new music posts, which is a lack of production credits. I understand the intention to make a “no big deal” post like: - *SONG TITLE* OUT NOW! - but everyone who played a creative role in the project still needs to be credited. It’s a sign of respect and a common curtesy to the people who help make your music dream a reality.

Write whatever you want for the release post but please add liner notes below containing the credits. If you don’t know everyone who was involved, find out!

All of us who work behind the scenes on music rely on word-of-mouth and project credits to grow our services. For those of you leading by example, thank you!

I got pretty experimental with this one and did some sweet sounding low end magic to really bring out/enhance the bounce and sense of movement between the kick/bass.
