TODAY IN HISTORY - SEPTEMBER 12, 1940 (83 Years ago)

"Dog in France Discovers World Famous Cave Paintings!"

This is the story of how a teenager's leisurely walk with his pup led to an astounding archaeological find in southern France.

18-year old Marcel Ravidat decided to take his dog for a countryside stroll near their home in the Dordogne region of southwestern France. The curious pup, Robot, noticed an opening where a tree had recently fallen. Marcel saw Robot digging around the hole and decided to throw stones into it. He was amazed by how far they fell as there was no immediate sound!!

He returned with friends and a teacher later that day to explore the opening and discovered the stunning ancient Lascaux cave paintings, estimated at 17,000-20,000 years old! The vivid images of animals and symbols on the walls are still some of the most striking cave paintings human's have ever found.

All thanks to a serendipitous walk with Robot

What's the wildest thing you and your friends have ever happened upon?

According to the National Institute of Health - As people age, some may find themselves feeling isolated and alone. This can lead to feelings of depression, anxiety, and sadness. However, these feelings are not a normal part of aging as growing older can have many emotional benefits, such as long-lasting relationships with friends and family and a lifetime of memories to share with loved ones. In fact, studies show that older adults are less likely to experience depression than young adults. So, when should you be concerned? It’s important to remember that older adults with depression may have less obvious symptoms or be less likely to discuss their feelings. Depression is a common and potentially serious mood disorder, but there are treatments that are effective for most people.

In Viking societies, age was synonymous with storytelling prowess. Known as skalds, these Elder poets were considered living treasures, responsible for preserving sagas, heroic deeds, and family lineages. Far from being sidelined, they were central figures in Viking gatherings, their rich narratives passed down through the ages. Their longevity gave them an extensive repertoire of stories, making them invaluable cultural assets.
