The Soulectro Crew. Performing with Coflo at Monkey Loft for Labor Day.

A crazy night Idea started by Sho Nuph and WD4D in 2011 at a little spot called Capitol club. It was born from being tired of hearing just one genre of music all night long, and a love for really good music that wasn’t being played in the nightclubs.

Shomari (Sho Nuph) and Waylon (WD4D) shared this vision together, and with each others support & influence as they built this non-genre specific night from the ground up. Today, you’ll find Soulectro w/ resident Dj’s Sho Nuph & WD4D over at Vermilion, every second Friday of the month. The following has steadily grown over the years, go check out this pillar of Seattle music culture if you haven’t checked it out yet.

We are excited to have our friend AC join the fun for our day party on Labor Day!

AC Has been rocking dance floors for 30 years. From Seattle to Honolulu, LA to Miami, Toronto to Detroit’s Movement festival and beyond. In past lives, AC has been a host of City Soul on 91.3 KBCS, a founding member of SunTzu Sound,and a long time resident at the Infamous “Stop Biting” Seattle Venue LoFi. He has had His music released on Ninja Tune, Tru Thoughts, and Seattle’s own SunTzu Sound labels. From House to Hip Hop, Funky Breaks to Broken Beat, Nothing is off limits.

Artist Highlight!

Emily Song initially found her groove in 1997 by spinning vinyl at underground warehouse parties across the Pacific Northwest. After a few years of playing solo, she teamed up with two other female DJs to form the trio known as the Vixens Of Vinyl. The Vixens gained a reputation for their electrifying 3x6 and tag team sets. Ten years later Emily made the tough decision to shift her focus to her family and pursue a teaching career. After almost two decades away, she made a triumphant return with an all vinyl set, and since then hasn’t looked back. Emily now holds a residency with Viva Recordings, a long running house label in Seattle. Her carefully curated soulful house music is heavily influenced by jazz, disco, funk, soul, and R&B.

Artist Highlight!

Joey Webb - DJ, House dancer, vinyl collector, student and bagel appreciator. He’ll be playing for Viva La Soul along with Coflo and more at Viva La Soul, our day party on Labor Day at Monkey Loft.

Joey Webb, a DJ and house dancer from San Francisco, has been dishing out dance
floor rhythms for over twenty years. Now residing in the Seattle area, he has been bringing his charismatic energy to the turntables as a consistent sound selector for a variety of house, world grooves, funk, and soul evenings in the region. Joey has utilized his experience as a DJ in New York City, Houston, San Francisco, and Seattle, where he held party residences, to produce sets that cross genres and entertain thousands. He has supported house legends such as Ron Trent, Terry Hunter, Heather & Colette, David Harness, and Miguel Migs, among others.

Joey, a pillar of the Seattle underground house music community, continues to play the music he loves without limitation. Along with his individual gigs, Joey is also part of San Francisco Bay Area collective The Housemen and Seattle based Board of Deacons. These two groups have decades of house music experience and craft that have rocked clubs up and down the west coast and beyond.

Zen will be making her Viva debut on Labor Day and we can’t wait to hear her selections!

DJ Zen is an Event Curator and Creative. She’s a co-founder of Colours Global, SeeYouOutside, and UpTempo, contributing to their success through her musical palette, creative direction, and DJ style. A musically diverse and exciting DJ, her approach has been heavily influenced by her culture and growing up in the melting pot that is NYC. From Hip Hop to Rnb/Soul, Dancehall to Afrobeats, and variations of UK Garage, Jungle and Drum and Bass, Zen has no limits incorporating different genres into her set.

Mac Tray will be making that deck bounce for our Labor Day party! Her energy is SO infectious on the dance floor and we can’t wait to see how that translates to behind the decks.

DJ Mac Tray aka Tracey Wong (黃麗塋), is a Teochew American artist who makes you wanna dance. As a dancer first, Tracey’s deepest joy about spinnin’ is sharing a vibration that can bring people together to move and enjoy the groove. Born and raised in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Duwamish Land/ Seattle, WA, she’s spun at local dance parties & events like C-ID Block Party, Azn Glo, Free NRG, Dayshift, Hai! Japantown, and LoveCityLove. For battles, she spins every quarter for the EOT Battle at The Beacon: Massive Monkees Studio which is a Waacking/ Whacking, Breaking, and House battle. She’s on a new journey in spinning kiki balls for her local Ballroom community. Monday 9.2 - Viva La soul

We are REALLY looking forward to having Coflo out for his Viva La Soul debut! Coflo brings a true dancer’s touch to house music. As a life long student of the American style of house dance and the Afro-Brazilian martial art Capoeira; Coflo looks to infuse his dance and movement experience into his musical productions.

In 2018 Coflo joined the American house music beacon Ocha Records as head of A&R and Label Manager. Originals and remixes spread quickly through DJs and collectors internationally with his breakout single “Stress Relief (Don’t f**k with me right now)” remixed by house music legend Osunlade. In 2021, Coflo joined the official artist ranks on Yoruba Records with his debut collaboration “Soul 2 Souls” with SACRED H3ART. 2022 for Coflo was all about “Peanut Butter Lover,” a track that stuck in clubs like, you guessed it, peanut butter! It’s Coflo’s signature: fun and honest in club music with an irresistible groove, earning love from DJ legends like Anané, Osunlade, and Louie Vega. Coflo’s 2023 was epic, remixing Ron Trent’s “Black Magic Woman” for the fresh label “Sacred Medicine”. Notable for 2024 was the International break out remix for house maestro Louie Vega’s “How He Works” - charting as the number 1 house remix record for 4 weeks consecutively.

Coflo hopes to continue to bring a unique view from a dancer’s perspective to house music. Focusing on crafting something new and evolving with each passing release.

Lyssa and Pete Williams will be making the trek down from the great white north. Residing in Victoria, BC, Lyssa is a our Canadian resident DJ and is the one who handles and makes Breakfast Jam on Saturday’s possible for all of our enjoyment. We can’t wait to have her back for a morning set on the roof! Pete Williams, who is half of the Natural Rhythm house duo, will be making the trek as well. We’ve had him many times on Breakfast Jam, and we’re super stoked to have him doing a morning set in the loft for our 12 hour.

It’s the weekend! Here’s what’s in store. And some bittersweet news as well.

Start it off w/ Lyssa on the Breakfast Jam today. Our Victoria, BC resident takes over in the kitchen for some morning grooves.

Next, head over to the Fishladder Lounge for a free day party starting at 2pm. This is the bittersweet news part. It’s the LAST EDITION of 2nd Saturdays. Although we’re sad about it, it’s been super fun and a breath of fresh air for all of us. Unfortunately the building owners seem to have other plans on what to do with this property, so this is the last month the lounge will be open. It’s our last hurrah. Bring a USB if you have a couple deep & sweet grooves you might wanna throw down with us.

Last but not least, our friends over at Reflect are taking over the Monkey Loft deck on Sunday for their day party “Canopy”. Come join us for some fun in the Sun!

Ready to get to know the fine folks playing at the 12 hour edition of THIS! on August 17th? We’re going to be doing some artist highlights, but this time we’re doing some of them together, because we’ve got a lot to get though for a 12 hour party. Ok, so here we go. Of course you know Oliver Dollar is coming to town from Berlin to play. On either side of him we’ve got Mikey V and the Legendary Johnny Fiasco.

Mikey will be setting the mood right before Oliver, and you can expect some serious house beats to move your feets. Mikey is the founder of LA based HAWT Music, which has put out some amazing things over the years. We’re blessed to have him here in Seattle now.

Taking the late shift after Oliver is the one and only Johnny Fiasco, originally from Chicago. If you didn’t know, Viva’s very first release was a Johnny Fiasco record. It’s still a favorite of many to this day. To say he’s part of the inspiration that started the label is an understatement. Prepare as he takes you towards the sunrise after Oliver’s set. And get ready to stay up late! Or get up early?

Join us on Sunday August 4th, 2024, as Uniting Souls, Flammable, Viva Recordings, and YoYoYoga team up to present Forest For The Trees 7 - a daytime gathering starting at noon with a one-hour yoga session in the grassy meadow, followed by djs & dancing until 9pm. This event will be held at the beautiful Myrtle Edwards Park, right next to the Puget Sound, next to Olympic Sculpture Park and the downtown waterfront.
