Updated 1:10pm-- 4-23-24-- The Rancheros Visitadores, in partnership with Wrangler, have donated more than $1.53M to the Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara over the past 12 years. Raised in conjunction with the Rancheros Visitadores’ annual ride, over 750 Rancheros from 37 states and 6 countries typically gather together each spring. For the first time since 2022, the Rancheros are expected to parade through the streets of Solvang to old Mission Santa Inés on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 2:30pm. Community members will gather to witness a blessing of the riders and a check presentation to the Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara. This year alone the Rancheros Visitadores have raised more than $155,000.
As the largest contributor to Ridley-Tree Cancer Center, the Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara greatly appreciates the generosity of the Rancheros Visitadores and their partners. These funds support research and supportive care programs at Ridley-Tree Cancer Center, helping residents all over Santa Barbara County on their journey, with, through and beyond cancer. Lori Willis, Executive Director of the Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara shares, “The funds raised by members of the Rancheros Visitadores, and its partners, support important programs utilized by hundreds of cancer patients here in our community. These essential programs, including oncology nutrition, genetic counseling, and oncology social work, help patients reduce stress, manage side effects and improve healing.” One such patient is Janice, who faced a uniquely daunting challenge during the global anxiety of 2020: a diagnosis of endometrial cancer, an unwelcome finding during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. “It was such an anxious time in my life, but everyone I came into contact with at the Ridley-Tree Cancer Center made the situation as relaxing, reassuring and pain-free as they could,” said Janice. A significant part of what made the treatment easier was the proximity of the Ridley-Tree Cancer Center’s Solvang facility to Janice’s Santa Ynez home. While she underwent surgery and radiation in Santa Barbara, Janice was able to have her chemotherapy administered in Solvang. Janice’s chemotherapy regimen took several weeks, and each infusion lasted between 4 – 5 hours. It makes for a long day and typically patients feel exhausted and depleted, making the proximity of the Solvang facility a game-changer.
