Arroyo Grande had made up six runs of a 10-3 deficit Wednesday when Eagles catcher Rori Degeer tagged a 2-2 pitch and sent it to deep center field.
With runners on first and second, Nipomo center fielder Alyssa Cornero turned and high-tailed it toward the fence when the ball left Degeer’s bat.
Cornero snagged the ball and held on to it for the last out as she ran into the fence, preserving a 10-9 non-league softball win for the Titans at Nipomo.
Nipomo is 3-3. Arroyo Grande is 2-5.

Caldwell — who is running as a Republican — said sees his main base as the district’s conservatives, moderates and independents, and pledges to work on Central Coast issues, not toe a party line.

Nipomo High students make a splash during annual cardboard boat regatta
To float, or not to float? That was the question more than two dozen Nipomo High School students attempted to answer Wednesday afternoon during a test of engineering and innovation, buoyancy and basic aquatic skills. Lined up at the edge of the school pool, 10 teams of students unveiled the cardboard and duct tape boats they were certain would lead them to victory in the school's annual cardboard boat regatta. Designed and constructed over a two-week period, the boats each carry two students tasked with completing a lap in the pool without getting wet.

Why do our brains love fatty foods?
A study has found that our brain is to blame for our love of french fries and other fatty/carbohydrate loaded meals. Foods containing fat and carbohydrates are valued higher by the brain's reward system, as opposed to food with only one energy source. Research says our brain estimates how many calories there are in foods with just fat or carbs, regulating how much we eat. However, things get tricky when we combine the two.
Find out why your brain doesn't want you to put down those french fries!
805SportsTalk: Former athlete leading the effort to solve sports concussion crisis
There was a time, in the not too distant past, when getting your “Bell Rung” was seen as a badge of honor. After taking a hard hit to the head, woozy athletes were regularly told to “shake it off” or “walk it off.” Chris Nowinski hopes those days are gone forever. He’s doing everything he can to make sure of it. Nowinski, in conjunction with Dignity Health Central Coast and its network of local hospitals — Marian Medical Center, French Hospital Medical Center and Arroyo Grande Community Hospital — led a symposium Saturday at Arroyo Grande High School about the dangers of Concussive Brain Injuries, more commonly referred to as concussions. Parkinson's patients use boxing to fight back against debilitating disease
Started just over a year ago, Marian Regional Medical Center's Neuroboxing class is designed to help Parkinson's patients develop agility, muscular endurance, balance, hand-eye coordination, footwork and overall strength. Neuroboxing was co-founded by Jennifer Parkinson, a former nurse who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease at age 32. After reading that vigorous exercise could help with the disease's symptoms, Parkinson started training with a former professional boxer. “I had more energy. I was able to move better (and) my freezing episodes got better," Parkinson said. “I realized that this was something that could help a lot of people.” Read the full story on SantaMariaTimes.com https://buff.ly/2vmReoL, and subscribe to our YouTube page to watch more videos focusing on local news, life, and sports on the Central Coast - https://buff.ly/2HtMEdb

Power up: Vandenberg Air Force Base formally dedicates new solar array
With the sun fittingly shining above them, Air Force leaders joined with private partners and other local community members Tuesday morning to formally dedicate Vandenberg Air Force Base’s new solar farm. The gathering concluded with a ceremonial flipping of the power switch, and tours of the massive array, which is the largest within the U.S. Air Force. The 65,000 panels at the solar farm are expected to provide about a third of VAFB’s total energy over the next 25 years. Several speakers at Tuesday’s dedication extolled the new clean, renewable energy source, but the significance goes beyond just the raw power, according to Mark Correll, the deputy assistant secretary of the Air Force.
