Rosemary said we are learning today, and she is right. Jaime Smith just taught me how to treat a pie crust when making a quiche or a banana cream pie. I had never heard of blind baking a crust, but it makes perfect sense. This page has a description which seems to match Jaime's pretty closely, all the way down to the egg wash.

Have you suffered damage from recent storms? Here is a notice from Santa Cruz County.

The recent round of storms brought more damage to our county. Unfortunately, a lot of the damage appears to be private property damage from falling trees and limbs, mudslides and localized flooding.

The County may pursue a State and Federal Disaster Declaration. However, a declaration does not automatically include Individual Assistance, and the County must document a threshold level of level of impacts and order to secure assistance for private property.

If you have sustained damage to your property, the County is seeking information through this form. It is not a guarantee of assistance, but would support a request for assistance. It is not being collected for any other purpose than to try to secure state and federal assistance. Please also share with others you know who may have sustained damage to their property.

This survey can help us demonstrate to CalOES and FEMA that our community was significantly impacted by the last series of storms. Since we had a best of episode today, there was no current news. Here is one of stories we will be running from now on today at Santa Cruz Voice. Please be careful.

Several beaches in Santa Cruz county have been closed as a precaution. The issues are the expected high tides, and waves that could be up to 30-feet tall. Seacliff State Beach’s lower day-use and former campground areas, as well as Rio Del Mar Esplanade and Rio Del Mar Platform areas will be under a hard closure starting today (Wednesday). This closure is slated to be re-evaluated on Friday.

Number two son had to work today. I visited him and had the pleasure of seeing customers going out of their way to tell him how much they appreciate him. That always makes me proud.

I made a quick trip to visit with number two son and my brother. Quick because I am getting over a bug. I love watching my son practice his art. By art I mean cooking, and for him it is. It is also science. He explained why it was important to briefly boil the potatoes in alkaline water, as he prepared crispy roast potatoes. It is like having Alton Brown in your kitchen.
