The effects on visual physiology of cannabis with high content of the psychotropic tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) have been little studied. [1] There is a lack of data related to cannabis use and visual impairment for parameters like depth perception, night-vision performance, visual acuity or Mandelbaum effect that is when the eye changes its fixation from a distant point in the space to a nearby object. [2] In a recent research the effects of recreational use cannabis on visual function and self-perceived visual quality were analysed on thirty-one cannabis users. [1] The participants were 20 males and 11 females selected between 19 and 43 years old, all occasional cannabis users and without hystory of alcohol or drug disorders. They were asked to avoid cannabis four days before the tests and to abstain from alcohol 24 hours prior the study. [1] What came out from the study is that cannabis worsen static visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, three-dimensional vision and increased accomodative lag, that is the ability to adjust the eye to near and far targets.

“Cannabis and children” is a combination of words that is considered a hard no, and for good reason. The brain is believed to develop until the age of 25, which is why cannabis use, especially in large quantities over extended periods of time, can have lifelong domino effects on the underdeveloped adolescent brain.

However, medical cannabis can, at least in theory, provide benefits and relief for various pediatric diseases, rooted and/or accompanied by inflammation, pain, vomiting, a loss of appetite, and more. Moreover, and actually most importantly, pediatric cannabis use doesn’t have to actually involve full-on, intoxicating cannabis, or in other words, THC.

While studies on pediatric use of non-intoxicating cannabinoids is scarce for obvious reasons.

On the one hand, there’s not much reason to believe they’d be of any real, long-lasting harm, given their benevolent nature. This is particularly true when you compare them with prescription drugs that are being prescribed left and right to children, like Adderall, for example.

Environmental parameters directly affect a grow operation’s ability to produce valuable harvests sustainably and regularly. As such, it is important to consider each parameter in the planning and ex*****on of your grow space, be it outdoors in the full sun, within a greenhouse, or indoors.

What are environmental parameters?

Environmental parameters are the ranges and limits of forces and conditions that you set for your grow space. Light, humidity, air flow, air quality, and temperature are a few of the principal environmental parameters growers set to produce their crops.

As you might imagine, the ability to control environmental parameters tends to lead to better crops. However, control can cost significant time and money. And in many cases, it makes more sense to adjust to already existing environmental parameters rather than creating them.

The cannabis industry in South/ Latin America is gaining vibrancy as medical cannabis is now legal in most countries and others have moved a step further to open up the adult-use market. The key drivers of the regulated cannabis market in South America are Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. According to Statista, the market value of cannabis in Latin America is currently $ 7.3 billion, with Brazil having the largest market.

The Status of Medical Cannabis in South America

Quite a number of countries in Latin America have a regulated program that allows patients with qualifying conditions to access medical cannabis. Some countries such as Argentina allow patients to cultivate medical cannabis for personal consumption. Chile has a medical cannabis program and in 2014 the country approved a cannabis-based drug called Sativex. Countries with medical cannabis programs include the following:

Cannabigerolic acid (CBGA) is known as the mother of cannabinoids because it is the starting molecule for many cannabinoids including cannabigerol (CBG), delta9- tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and cannabidiol (CBD). While most cannabinoids are only found in cannabis, CBG has also been found in Helichrysum umbraculigerum, a botanical source used by South African healers to alleviate headaches and pain, and for dressing wounds [2]. CBG-dominant cannabis has gained popularity for similar uses.

The study “Survey of Patients Employing Cannabigerol-Predominant Cannabis Preparations: Perceived Medical Effects, Adverse Events, and Withdrawal Symptoms” conducted a patient survey to document the self-reported efficacy, benefits, and adverse effects of CBG-dominant cannabis use.

In recent years psychedelic therapy has seen a major resurgence, and it’s gaining mainstream popularity, even though the law has been slow to catch up. As different treatment techniques emerge, so do the stories of patients having breakthrough success. One such new therapy, PSIP therapy, uses either cannabis or ketamine help people process past trauma, and it’s showing such positive results that the minds behind it are training new therapists to expand its reach.
What is PSIP Therapy?
PSIP stands for Psychedelic Somatic Interactional Psychotherapy. It’s a revolutionary therapy that uses psychedelics or cannabis in conjunction with psychotherapy to help people access the emotions and suppressed memory of past trauma and work through it. [1]

It’s no secret that 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (M**A) and psilocybin have been demonstrating clinical benefits for conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression [3]. It may be more surprising to learn that President Biden’s own son Hunter Biden has personal experience utilizing psychedelic therapies to assist in overcoming drug and alcohol dependencies [4].

Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use Miriam Delphin-Rittmon wrote a correspondence in May 2022 revealing the administration’s desire to establish a legal framework for exploring and monitoring the clinical use of psychedelic therapies [2]. Speaking on behalf of The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), she says, “SAMHSA, in collaboration with the Assistant Secretary for Health, is exploring the prospect of establishing a Federal Task Force to monitor and address the numerous complex issues associated with emerging substances.

09/14/2022

As cannabis grow configurations become more and more sophisticated, it is increasingly possible to control a variety of factors that contribute to the final product. Light exposure, soil composition, atmospheric conditions all pay a role, but how significant is temperature? Multiple studies have been conducted to determine just how important temperature is to cannabis growth.

Why Temperature Matters

All plants need three basic components for effective photosynthesis: water, carbon dioxide, and sunlight. Temperature not only affects the humidity of the environment, which can lead to more or less water available, but it can also play a role in how much light is exposed. A 1995 study in the Netherlands found a linear correlation between stem and leaf growth when compared to temperature.[1] Temperature change effected 98.6% of leaf growth and contributed to 90% of light absorption per plant.

Recreational and medicinal cannabis use has been decriminalized in recent years in the US, with more than 50 states legalizing this plant. Despite its growing popularity and uses, much still needs to be learned about cannabis farming and its effects on the environment.

However, this doesn’t mean that nothing is known. On the contrary, a recent study has shown the world the effects cannabis farming is having and how some of these negative outcomes can be negated. In our article, we will briefly touch on some of the ways cannabis affects the environment and what still needs to be uncovered.

Cannabinoids are a class of diverse chemical compounds that act on cannabinoid receptors in cells that alter neurotransmitter release in the brain. Cannabinoids can be produced in the body (endogenous cannabinoids) or introduced from outside the body (exogenous cannabinoids). The most notable exogenous cannabinoid is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) one of the primary psychoactive components of cannabis.

09/09/2022

With the progressive deregulation of cannabidiol (CBD)-supplements containing low levels of the psychotropic cannabinoid tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the market of human and pet-care products is expanding. [1] Many concerns by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are related to the lack of precise and reliable analysis and a grey zone of regulation surrounding the animal supplements area. The absence of clear guidelines for h**p-derived products allows the spread of adulterated and dubiously labelled products. For this reason a recent publication focused on the analysis of 29 veterinary food supplements with low-THC levels in order to provide infos regarding the stated content of cannabis constituents including cannabinoids, terpenes and the eventual heavy metal contamination. The analysis were performed thorugh liquid chromatography with diode array detection and mass spectroscopy (LC-DAD/MS), headspace gas chromatography (HS-GC- FID) and inductive coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP- MS), respectively.

08/30/2022

Cannabis testing labs all across the country have an open secret that cannabinoid potency results can vary from lab to lab, and that higher potency results can essentially be bought if you know which lab is inflating results. An independent investigation of laboratories by Jamie Toth recently demonstrated this phenomenon [4]. Now, California is seeking to enact new standardization for cannabis potency testing to curtail bad actors that are inflating results [1]. However, this well-intentioned regulation could create big problems for bad actors and upstanding laboratories alike.

How Cannabis Testing Labs Cheat

With prices of cannabis sinking, producers are depending on higher potency results that typically dictate higher prices for cannabis flower. This problematic pricing model has become standard and neglects the value of quality versus potency while encouraging potency result cheating. As part of Jamie Toth’s independent investigation of potency result inflation, she reviews the main ways potency data can be manipulated to yield higher results [3]. These include:

08/30/2022

As demand for h**p grows, cultivators are always looking to increase yield. Since most regions aren’t ideal for year-round growing, and environmental conditions can be unpredictable at best, cultivators may turn to indoor growing solutions. Indoor growing can boost h**p yields, mitigate losses, and provide tighter control over product quality. However, unlike outdoor cultivation, growers are responsible for everything their crops need, making it imperative to get conditions right.

Lighting

Light is an essential factors in growing any crop. Cannabis plants need specific light conditions to trigger different developmental phases and influence the cannabinoids they produce.

For example, research indicates that red light helps plants develop longer stalks, while blue light promotes internode growth, meaning the plants will have more branches and leaves with fewer stretches of bare stalk. [1] The ratio of blue to red light provides an important metric to consider that portends how a plant will grow.
