Episode 484 of The Hustle Podcast is out!!

Candi Stanton is arguably one of the best, and most underrated, soul singers in history. While Aretha and Gladys and Diana were getting most of the attention, Candi was consistently recording incredible music whether it's deep r&b in Muscle Shoals, disco smashes like "Young Hearts Run Free", or quality gospel music. She remains one of the finest interpreters of music ever and she joins us this week to discuss her storied career including starting out on the chitlin circuit, her approach to making a song her own, and her association with Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker back in the day. We're so lucky she's still here, sounding great, and making new music!

The Ugly Things Podcast returns from its summer hiatus with a new episode. Chris Charlesworth was a staff writer for the Melody Maker from 1970 until early 1977. He recounts his experiences on rock journalism’s front lines in a consistently entertaining new memoir called Just Backdated, which I reviewed in the latest issue of Ugly Things. In our interview this episode he talks about life as a rock journalist in London, LA and New York City in the 1970s, and his close encounters with The Who, John Lennon, Led Zeppelin, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Debbie Harry and more. Hope you enjoy it!

🚨NEW EPISODE! On the 72nd Episode of “Dorm Damage” with Tom & Zeus, the guys discuss the recent passing of both Greg Kihn and Jack Russell's Great White.

The music world lost two rock stars from the MTV era. Greg Kihn from The Greg Kihn Band, which was all over MTV in the early 1980's with the legendary video for the single "Jeopardy" and Jack Russell the great lead singer of the late 1980's "hair metal" band Great White, which had hits like "Rock Me" and "Once Bitten, Twice Shy."

Tom & Zeus discuss their legacy and their impact on the guys.

Sad day in the rock world, but they both leave behind a lot of great music.

On this My Weekly Mixtape “Album Dive” episode, I am joined by modern blues artist Kevin Sonny Gullage to dig into the stories behind several songs from his debut album “Go Be Free” which is being released via Blind Pig.

We also talk about Sonny’s experience on Season 20 of American Idol, his family relation to blues/folk legend, and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee “Lead Belly” Ledbetter; the music lineage in his family (Sister Alberta Gullage released gospel records for the Wajo label in the 1960’s and his father, Tony Gullage played bass for Dr. John, Henry Butler as well as other artists around the New Orleans music scene); working with Tom Hambridge on the writing & production of the album; recording with Christone “Kingfish” Ingram & the lesson he learned from the entire experience overall.

You can purchase “Go Be Free” on vinyl: https://www.blindpigrecords.com/product-page/sonny-gullage-go-be-free-lp

as well as CD: https://www.blindpigrecords.com/product-page/sonny-gullage-go-be-free-cd

and will be available Aug. 23rd (this New Music Friday!) everywhere music is streamed.

What is this that stands before me…..

The Decibel Geek Podcast is back for an epic episode this week as Ralph Viera of Rock & Metal Combat podcast joins us to discuss The Best and Worst of 70's Black Sabbath!

With their debut release in 1970, Black Sabbath's self-titled debut would set the music world on its ear and help birth multiple bands and genres. In the same year, they'd release the iconic 'Paranoid' album to much acclaim. Those landmark albums would be followed up by other highly recognized albums such as 'Master of Reality,' 'Volume 4,' 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath,' and 'Sabotage.' Things take unexpected turns with the releases 'Technical Ecstasy,' and 'Never Say Die;' mostly fueled by band drama and addiction issues.
