Where Is Diana? An Animalis Fabula Film Festival official selection for June. Congratulations go out to Director: Samy Chaffaï, 28, Tunisian filmmaker. Currently PhD student in Cinema

Tickets go on sale for here in September: https://www.animalisfabula.org

Director's Statement:
Through "Where is Diana," I want to show a person who's abandoned and has no memory, just like the dog in the story. This character will feel confused, anxious, but still hopeful for a reunion, even though they've been left behind. It's like how we feel for abandoned animals, like they're helpless kids.

Mountain Boy. An Animalis Fabula Film Festival official selection for June. Congratulations go out to Director: Zainab Sheheen

Tickets go on sale for here in September: https://www.animalisfabula.org

Suhail, a young boy with Autism, flees to live in the mountains after his father shuns him, not understanding his determination. Pinned with the confusing sadness that his mother died in childbirth with him, Suhail makes the epic journey, with his new friend Barakah, an Arabian Saluki, to find acceptance, family, and redemption.

The film is a passionate exploration of the world of neurodiverse people to honour the entire human experience and understand there are many ways to be alive.

Mountain Boy is the feature film directorial debut of Emirati director Zainab Shaheen. Born in Fujairah, she is committed to empowering Emirati through uniquely Emirati stories.

Zainab's previous short films include Journey of Hope, Dates to Mars, Fujairah Vlog, and UAE 2071.

Triage. An Animalis Fabula Film Festival official selection for March. Congratulations go out to Director: David Rendall

Tickets go on sale for here in September: https://www.animalisfabula.org

For Gemma and James, a simple car ride to the vet escalates into a full-blown crisis, exposing hard truths beneath the surface of their relationship. Set in the early days of the pandemic, TRIAGE is a claustrophobic pressure cooker and exploration of who we truly love when our worlds fall apart.

Director Statement:
My vision for TRIAGE was to make a social realist drama with a cinéma vérité documentary feel that responded to the claustrophobic and isolating conditions of the pandemic in Ontario.

In particular, I wanted to convey a sense of confinement and pressure on a young couple by setting the film inside a van for nearly the whole story. I also wanted to displace speaking directly about the virus, instead communicating about a couple’s concern for their ill cat. The film asks questions like - how much would you be willing to sacrifice to save your pet’s life at the vet?

but also about the larger difficult choices we made in the pandemic.

The term ‘triage’ refers to a system that sorts the order of patient care in a larger crisis in order to maximize the number of survivors. This system was employed in the pandemic, and the film is about the conflicting views of each character’s crises during this state of emergency.

The Dolphin Dilemma. An Animalis Fabula Film Festival official selection for March. Congratulations go out to Director: Olivia Andrus-Drennanr.

Tickets go on sale for here in September: https://www.animalisfabula.org

Imagine, waking up being covered in third-degree burns, that's what it's like for the Burrunan dolphins in Australia. But why is this happening? That's what Dr. Duignan, Director of Pathology at The Marine Mammal Center, Dr. Stephen’s from Murdoch University, and Dr. Robb from the Marine Mammal Foundation had to find out. This film explores this international collaboration that proves for the first time that these lesions being found on cetaceans around the world are only caused by climate change.

Director Statement:
This project came from an internship I did with The Marine Mammal Center after they had published the first paper proving that climate change is responsible for lesions on cetaceans around the world. The scientists working on this project are devoted to the protection of our ocean health and our world.

It touched my heart and I hope to share with the viewers that same urgency as the oceans continue to warm. There are things we can do in our local communities around the world to help combat climate change and protect our homes in the process. Get involved with your communities science groups, learn how you can help where you live, and together lets protect the world we call home!

The Last Cheetahs - An Animalis Fabula Film Festival official selection. Congratulations go out to Director Daniel Clarkson. Tickets go on sale here in September: https: https://www.animalisfabula.org

Across Africa few animals are as enchanting, and as captivating, as the cheetah. Its legend has been woven into our artworks and stories for thousands of years from the ancient Egyptians to young children today fascinated by the idea of the fastest land animal on Earth. Yet now the wild cheetah population is on the brink. In the last century, their population has collapsed by over 90%, and the Masai Mara in Kenya is one of the cheetahs’ last remaining strongholds.

Even here they are in decline.

Daniel writes, "In this film I really wanted it to have the feel of a love letter to cheetahs. To make the viewer fall in love with these incredible and often overlooked animals and to highlight the issues facing them by weaving research and narrative together to bring these issues to light.

The film focuses on conservation efforts in Kenya's Masai Mara and challenges the conventional view on what it means to 'conserve' and 'protect'."

We get asked frequently about what constitutes an AniFab movie.

"Hey, do you consider Caddyshack a movie that would be accepted into San Antonio's Animalis Fabula Film Festival?"

Yes, yes we do. It fits the idea of a movie that is about or features an animal in the story. Caddyshack fits that requirement. And probably would have won an award.

Danny Noonan (Michael O'Keefe), a teen down on his luck, works as a caddy at the snob-infested Bushwood Country Club to raise money for his college education. In an attempt to gain votes for a college scholarship reserved for caddies, Noonan volunteers to caddy for a prominent and influential club member (Ted Knight). And a groundhog.
