In USA TODAY:

“‘Add in stagnant water mixed with sewage and warm water due to the hot temperatures, and it, unfortunately, becomes the perfect breeding ground,’ said Edgar Zúñiga, a Ukrainian delegate for the American Red Cross based in Budapest, Hungary.”

A major dam explosion has Ukrainians searching for clean water as concerns over diseases loom. The Red Cross is among aid groups seeking solutions.

🖤 This song has been stuck in my head for days. “We’re All Alone” made famous by Rita Coolidge.

🎙 My last live hit. Today was my last day on the air with KUER 90.1 NPR Utah.🙏🏼 I’m leaving because new commitments don’t allow me to continue to fill in. It has been a career highlight to host news on the radio during the last year.

It has been an honor to accompany Utahns on their morning and evening commutes, and throughout the workday, on the station I grew up listening with my dad on the way to school.

It has been an honor to learn from the hosts, producers, and managers I’ve had the privilege to work with. It has been awesome to return to the campus of my alma mater, the University of Utah after 12 years. 🙌🏼

I believe in NPR and KUER is worthy of its founding member status. A hard-working team that covers stories you don’t find elsewhere. The nicest group of journalists I’ve ever encountered. Stay with KUER!

🎙 Always an honor to fill in at our local NPR station. Hard to believe tomorrow will be 20 years since the attacks of September 11th. 🙏🏼🇺🇸

I was in the 9th grade at the time. 90.1 KUER NPR Utah will air live coverage tomorrow from 6-10am and then again at 4pm. With the Afghanistan withdrawal, it’s on everyone’s minds, but so many have lived with the aftermath every single day for the last twenty years.

My thoughts and prayers are with those who lost loved ones and all those whose lives were forever changed on that horrific day, some of whom I have the honor to know. 🙏🏼

🎙I filled in and hosted ALL local newscasts and breaks during Morning Edition for the first time on 90.1 KUER NPR Utah today! 🤗 I had done a couple hours two weeks ago. It was a privilege to accompany Utahns as they woke up and went about their day! 🚗 I was at work in the 4AM hour, so I did not get much sleep, but I throughly enjoyed it. There’s something about the morning news.☀️ The Pioneer Day parade, Utah’s state holiday, was held this morning so we talked about that, flash floods, and more. 📰

I’m on the air, filling in during local newscasts for the next hour on KUER 90.1 NPR Utah. Been on the air since 6AM. A privilege to join our listeners this Friday morning.

🎙I hosted Morning Edition for the first time this morning. 👏🏼 A full circle moment for me because when our dad would drive us to school, 🚘 we would listen to Morning Edition on this NPR station. 📻

I filled in this morning for local news and breaks on the local NPR station from 6AM to 8AM. I have been filling in for the last three months and have now hosted every local newscast and break possible from 6AM to 10PM. 🤗

I also shadowed one of my college professors when he was the local Morning Edition host at this station. Grateful for the opportunity. 🙏🏼

🎙 We got to a high of 107 today, it was 106 degrees while I was on the air today!!! 🥵 Today is a tie for the hottest day ever recorded in Salt Lake City. 😮 Over the last ten days, I’ve spent 30 hours in the chair hosting local news and weather breaks on 90.1 KUER NPR Utah. 🎙Truly an honor to accompany and inform our listeners at different hours of the day. 😯 Challenging and fun… the interesting thing is your alone in master control, but it’s really rewarding being that local voice chiming in and being with our listeners amid the network NPR lineup. Filling in doesn’t just require speaking, 🎙 which obviously is extremely important, but you also write, ✍🏼 stack or organize your newscast rundown, you are backtiming your breaks, ⏰ you are playing background music or music beds, 🎶 and firing off sponsors cued in on the software. It’s a lot, but it’s really fun. And keeps your mind sharp! 🙏🏼

I’m filling in on the air at KUER NPR Utah all this week. Hosting local newscasts on All Things Considered through Wednesday evening, covering the midday shift Thursday and Friday.

Tonight, we reported on plans for LDS (Mormon) General Conference, FEMA fire funding, the latest on Dixie State’s name change, and more.

Oh, and I did traffic for the first time.

I’ve gotten to do many cool things since I quit where I worked for 11 years—which I loved btw— moved back home to Utah and started freelancing. 🙏🏼 🏔

I’ve done on-air work in both English and Spanish. I reported on camera for international television networks on Election Day, 🇺🇸📺 I traveled to Vegas to report for an international television network on election protests, 🚗 I’ve hosted a podcast since December,🎙 I’ve written and translated articles, I’ve done PR work and some consulting... 🖊💻

But none has been more rewarding than coming back to the University of Utah—where I graduated from in 2009—👨🏻‍🎓🙌🏼 to fill-in host at KUER, the NPR Utah station. 📻I’m grateful for the opportunity. Here’s a bit of the behind-the-scenes of my night shifts this week. 😊
