KPVM Moves Forward with NVerzion’s Automation and NFinity Video Server solutions

Salt Lake City, UT - April, 2024 – Southern Nevada’s KPVM-TV has recently integrated NVerzion’s Automation and NFinity Server package into their multi-channel broadcast operation. This move has allowed the station to streamline their workflow by replacing an outdated system. The NVerzion solution has significantly improved efficiency by better organizing events for immediate broadcast needs. KPVM is pleased with their decision to adopt NVerzion’s automation solution, citing the long-term commitment and support relationship as the perfect fit for their anticipated growth.

The facility sought a solution to reduce the workload in master control, and the NVerzion result has enabled KPVM to streamline operations by managing various elements within their broadcast environment. This includes the management of Pathfire, external FTP files, and Extreme Reach for digital content. Following a successful integration with existing hardware, the NVerzion solution is now operational with KPVM’s primary channel, 25.1 Prime TV. NVerzion has effectively met the current needs by providing efficient access and management of file content, improved organization, and quick schedule modification when necessary.

The cost and manpower reduction have been significant factors, realized during KPVM’s transition to the NFinity Automation and Video Server. Station management is very pleased with the NFinity Video Server’s signal quality. Operating within a vast array of broadcast offerings and competition, the highest grade of visual quality is essential, and KPVM is confident with the result moving forward.

Qualified and reliable customer support has been essential for KPVM during this equipment transition. The facility felt secure in knowing the equipment hand-off from one automation system to another would be quick and seamless, an important aspect when multiple and varying channels and content were involved.

KPVM’s management is also looking forward to the next phase of graphics implementation with NVerzion’s system. This is a highly utilized part of the facility’s visual offering, and the NFinity Video server is ready to meet the need.

“It has taken a lot of energy, and I’ve always felt great concern about maintaining a professional broadcast. But I can honestly say that NVerzion has been there 100% with me and they've made me feel secure during every interaction,” said Vernon Van Winkle, owner of KPVM-TV. “They've picked up the phone, logged in, answered the questions, and made it all work for me.”

“After a careful and deliberate analysis and preparation process, we set up a very workable hardware and software solution for KPVM’s operational facility,” said Reed Haslam, NVerzion’s director of sales. “We’re happy to have arrived at this arrangement and know we’ll be in partnership for a long time. Our Automation package and NFinity Video Server will provide KPVM with the best possible broadcast result during their expected growth.”

Tulalip TV upgrades their facility with NVerzion’s NFinity Video Server and Software Management tools

Salt Lake City, UT - April, 2023 - Tulalip TV, of Tulalip Washington, recently acquired NVerzion’s NFinity playout server and inclusive software management tools. Tulalip TV representatives originally met with NVerzion at NAB 2022 in search of a system capable of managing multiple program feeds, live streams, and content conversion for their operation. One of Tulalip TV’s primary goals was a move from 720P to 1080P, with eventual expansion to 4K in their broadcast facility. Station management moved forward with the purchase of NVerzion’s NFinity Video Server package based on cost considerations and its powerful upgrade potential over the next several years.

NVerzion’s system allows the facility to generate more advanced graphical signage with music beds; a build sequence that is important to Tulalip TV, and a process the staff felt limited by in the past. Operators are also happy with NFinity’s streamlined user interface, convenient library system, and simplified workflow.

NVerzion provided on-site assistance during the equipment implementation phase, integral in getting the staff and facility up to speed with all features in a short amount of time. On-site assistance was particularly useful during critical staffing periods when station management needed an easier learning curve during the new equipment acquisition sequence. Tulalip TV is planning additional expansion with new personnel over the next few months.

Tulalip TV can now move forward with additional channels with NVerzion’s NFinity Video Server, not possible with the previous system. The NFinity system also allows remote switcher operation with master control and gives the station the ability to display graphics and custom audio for extended periods after program conclusion. As an example, slides and animations containing localized notices can be auto inserted at various times following regularly scheduled programs.

The NFinity Automation Server provides greater control of break management, with options that weren’t available in the previous system. This includes quick file replacement, spot rotation, and advanced scheduling operations, now more convenient for station personnel particularly during periods of short staffing. Tulalip TV’s engineering is happy with NFinity’s integration with the facility’s existing equipment; quickly interfacing with Tulalip’s Blackmagic ATEM switcher, allowing the management of multiple inputs, live streams, and remote operations when needed.

Customer service and support is vital to the Tulalip operation considering the fast pace of the facility’s expansion and occasional hiring delays. Ongoing assistance is needed during re-acclimation to certain processes, and the station management is very happy with NVerzion’s unrestricted support offering. NVerzion’s support remains active as the team works through module usage and full implementation of the NFinity Video Server package.

“The overall organization, folder management, and integration with the existing operating system has been a big factor in allowing us to go forward,” said Cody Fay, Operations Engineer at Tulalip TV. “We’re able to utilize the library and Windows structure we’re used to, to cross-train, and quickly bring anyone else in without difficulty. The on-site assistance offered by NVerzion during the installation process was invaluable to the Tulalip Tribes broadcast facility.”

“Tulalip TV is a great example of NVERZION’s loyalty to all our customer installed base. It’s very important to provide our customers with the depth of understanding, thoroughness, and timeliness of each project,” said Reed Haslam, NVerzion’s director of sales. “It’s really exciting to be able to offer a solid and reliable product for those that need a PEG channel solution. In most cases, you have to purchase a Video Server system controlled by an external Automation or management system. Not the case with the NFinity Video Server, our product includes a level of software control for manual and scheduled records, and best of all playlist software. This helps the customer to meet their requirements without breaking-the-bank.”

About Tulalip Tribes Broadcast

Tulalip TV’s programming includes Native American and Indigenous news and sports, live events, historical biographies, and more. WXXV/Morris Multimedia Enhances their broadcast operation with NVerzion’s NFinity Video Servers and Automation System

WXXV of Gulfport, Mississippi acquired NVerzion’s full automation system, along with NFinity playout servers and full automation layer. The package includes a hybrid and mixture of professional software tools including EMC-NT, NGest, NTime, NFinityView and NControl, devoted primarily to playlist ex*****on within Morris Multimedia’s multi-program station operation. The facility uses a router core for automated baseband switching, controlled by the NControl playlists. NVerzion’s Automation communicates with the station’s traffic system across multiple program channels to play and switch local and network content. The station also uses NVerzion’s NGest to generate and insert short studio segments as promo content for news cut-ins. The NVerzion Automation package is compact and robust, simplifying operations with newer streamlined features. WXXV has been happy with the support and service response whenever modifications or adjustments have been needed, greatly minimizing the workload during the on-air operation.

Seamless Traffic system import was a much-needed addition to the process and a key factor in the equipment acquisition. The traffic system’s log imports are now accomplished without additional effort, and with NVerzion’s conversion routines, log implementation is now completely automated and accessed on a routine basis. The converted schedules are available to operators who may need to view and manage the content at a more convenient time of day than previously allowed. The NVerzion system also allows automatic time re-calculation, as all calculations were manual in nature prior to the installation. Operators now know at a moment’s notice whether scheduling sequences are short on time, or over.

Reliability and support are two paramount features for Morris Multimedia. The NVerzion support team has taken a proactive approach by monitoring and intervening before potential problems present themselves, remotely responding to issues at any time of day. This benefit played a part in Morris Multimedia’s Network’s decision to utilize NVerzion in their expansion from just WXXV to 3 more stations, WMGT, WCBI and WDEF. Considering the geographical location of these stations, it has always been a concern if any station had to evacuate for severe weather-related reasons. NVerzion’s solution using the NControl Monitor software to remotely control any location, is remarkable. Plus, the hardware integration has been autonomous with the Utah Scientific routing system. NVerzion’s hardware and UTSCI’s MC4000 master control are configured next to each other in two side-by-side racks, allowing a very compact equipment layout.

“NVerzion’s partnership with Morris Multimedia has been sound, with any concerns or issues addressed in a timely manner,” said DC Ladner, Chief Engineer, WXXV. “The NVerzion system simply works, and their crew stands behind the equipment and our team in its operation. For the past year, our station has been struggling to keep up with the fast-paced news environment and needed to find a more efficient, flexible, and reliable platform for News playout. Since our Master Control Automation and Video Server system is already a complete NVERZION solution, it made perfect sense to work with NVERZION for our news playout and archive management purposes,” DC Ladner continued. “NVerzion has provided us with a comprehensive system, while allowing the operators to utilize the latest software and hardware technologies that NVERZION offers with the NGAGE News Playout system.”

Morris Multimedia has maintained a relationship with NVerzion based on their trust in the technology, the equipment, and ultimately the direction the station group is looking to take their broadcast facilities. The group intends to implement NVerzion’s equipment within their new stations over the next year as the backbone of their master control operations.

Eastern Illinois University’s WEIU Upgrades Their Broadcast Facility
with NVerzion’s NFinity Video Server and Automation Package

Salt Lake City, UT - January, 2023 - WEIU of Charleston, Illinois, recently upgraded their facility with NVerzion’s NFinity Broadcast Video Server and NFinity View file management package. WEIU needed a new Master Control system after twenty years of NVerzion automation use, and as part of the expansion, the station upgraded to NVerzion’s NFinity Broadcast Video Server and Automation. Though WEIU’s video content originates from multiple sources, all material is funneled through the NVerzion video server and automation system, which lies at the heart of the station’s master control.

WEIU has experienced considerable innovation and change, from standard to high definition, to today’s ever evolving file format migrations. Since NVerzion’s system is multi-format capable, the facility can move through format transitions more smoothly. This flexibility has enabled future-proofing that’s important to WEIU when faced with new technology, software upgrades, and equipment acquisition. Previous compatibility issues that required equipment replacement are better addressed with NVerzion’s ability to incorporate varying technologies and file formats.

Since NVerzion’s hardware is not proprietary, basic part replacement such as hard drive upgrades and power supply swaps are simple and cost-effective, allowing users to take advantage of commodity pricing when needed. Inevitable parts replacement over extended periods can be simplified with less expensive components if necessary. In addition to the customer support commitment, WEIU made the decision to maintain ties with NVerzion based on the equipment quality and modest pricing that NVerzion was ultimately able to deliver. The equipment integration with WEIU’s existing hardware was seamless – SD to HD and serial digital interface transitions were quickly managed within NFinity’s IP infrastructure.

24/7 customer support is critical for WEIU’s engineering team. Station personnel tasked with managing the facility’s master control don’t have the luxury of wait times when problems arise, particularly for a system at the heart of the master control operation. Quality, long-term support is one of the primary reasons WEIU decided to maintain the relationship with NVerzion.
WEIU and NVerzion have a well-established partnership from a developmental standpoint, with strong interaction and personal assistance during critical periods. The NVerzion team has customized new feature sets when the facility has requested modifications, and the importance of one-to-one contact is vital to WEIU as needs evolve.

“I’m a firm believer in quality and immediate support, and NVerzion’s service and attention is second to none,” said Kevin Armstrong, Chief Engineer at WEIU. “Their products are well thought out. The team designs features by taking real-world situations into account. NVerzion’s crew does a great job addressing any unique needs we may encounter, in short order. They offer a high-quality product at an excellent price point.”

“We recognized the need to bring WEIU into the 2020’s with a cutting-edge hardware and software upgrade,” said Reed Haslam, NVerzion’s director of sales. “It is very rewarding to have an installation such as WEIU for over two decades, which says a lot for them to take advantage of our latest technology and continued partnership. Our Automation package and NFinity Video Server will offer WEIU an exceptional end result and a great continued relationship going forward.”

Salt Lake City, UT - November, 2022 - MC22, one of the leading content providers of locally produced programming in communities throughout the Midwest, has purchased the NControl package with eight channels. With this addition, MC22 now operates a system capable of playlist regionalizing and automation for all of their channels.

MC22’s previous system was strictly configured for router control. The addition of a new router and master control switcher signaled the need for expanded capability, which would include NVerzion’s NControl and its master control component array. MC22 recognized the importance of developing a more powerful playlist with multiple schedules throughout their seven Midwest regions; including Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Missouri, and Kentucky.

With the equipment acquisition, MC22 can successfully localize multiple-unit programming in several states. An example of MC22’s new reach is the ability to cover multi-location events such as Friday night high school football games -- the kind of production now possible with NVerzion’s automation system. Graphic insertion and additional video source access is also now streamlined.

“The role of service and support is vital for us and goes back nearly four years prior to the equipment purchase. The planning phase was long-term, and in many ways lent itself to the strength of this endeavor,” said Bill Brown, Regional Video Engineer for MC22. “We knew that NVerzion was a very good fit after many recommendations and product evaluations. The integration of the NVerzion system with our existing hardware went very well on the technical side,” he continued.

“Obtaining new router and automation at the same time presented some unique challenges concerning the placement sequence, but NVerzion’s customer support team helped us past those hurdles,” added Bennett Flaherty, MC22 Production Manager.

MC22 purchased the NControl and supplemental machine control hardware during a recent budget cycle, with two NFinity 4-channel video servers acquired more recently. MC22 is now able to send up to seven separate feeds with the main feed free to duplicate other regions as needed. NFinity also provides branding capability and additional graphics management on MC22’s other channels when necessary.

“When we first engaged the engineers at MC22, the challenge to replace their aging, home-built system was a definite concern,” said Reed Haslam, NVerzion’s director of sales. “The resistance to change is always a consideration, but the time spent planning and providing detailed information to MC22’s engineers provided a thorough and accurate system understanding and exceptional end result.”

Salt Lake City, UT - November, 2022 - WLIO, and Hometown Stations of Lima, Ohio has expanded their station’s broadcast capability with NVerzion’s NControl and TeraStore technologies in conjunction with WLIO’s Grass Valley and Telestream equipment. WLIO’s facility arrangement is unique in that they are one of the few broadcast facilities that operate four networks; Fox, CBS, ABC, and NBC, making NVerzion’s equipment configuration one of the most extensive in a broadcast setting.

One of the challenges in accomplishing this configuration was determining a method to successfully simulcast multiple newscasts, and ultimately NVerzion’s Automation System accomplished the task. WLIO’s previous automation system operated on four independent servers, running each network, without any means of backup. NVerzion’s system now provides redundancy, where any issue associated with a primary channel allows a seamless transition to a backup channel with little or no loss in air time. Uninterrupted delivery is facilitated by dual playlist management; two machines running playlists for WLIO and its sister station WOHL.

In the event a playlist disruption affects one of these machines, the backup NControl activates and takes over the scheduling on the opposite server. Along with the smooth transition from the previous configuration, this redundancy has been a significant gain for WLIO. Ultimately, NControl and Terastore provide convenience for both operators and engineering personnel.

NCompass, NVerzion’s metadata management app, has also simplified the process of adding new show content for WLIO. NCompass also eliminates the need to edit individual files, particularly during seasonal programming updates, saving a great deal of time across four networks. User acceptability has been a great benefit, and the satellite recording feature within NTime, NVerzion’s event scheduling app, has been a big plus for WLIO.

Scheduling updates are also managed in-house, with no need to communicate with vendors each time a change occurs. In a 24-hour operation containing thousands of hours of content, customer support is vital where minutes of downtime can result in revenue loss. The system integration went well, with personalized support from NVerzion’s staff all along the way, particularly in the area of third-party routing and control configuration.

“The NVerzion team’s ability to break down and essentially describe their equipment’s complex functions allowed us to work around smaller issues without additional calls,” said Chad Rummel, Information Technology Manager for Your Hometown Stations/WLIO. “NVerzion’s team is able to convey operational features in a way that helps us to become more resilient,” he added. NVerzion is committed to product operation in ‘Your Hometown Stations/WLIO’s facility for the long term, with a strong customer service presence and commitment well into the future. The NVerzion equipment package was sold through Heartland Video Systems, who managed the system design, installation and integration of the NControl and TeraStore package.

“WLIO and ‘Your Hometown Stations’ is a great example of NVERZION’s loyalty to all our customer installed base. Understanding every detail from a customer allows us to provide better solutions and results,” said Reed Haslam, NVerzion’s director of sales.
