On the eve of Roberto Martínez’s 26-man squad announcement for , here are who I believe the manager will choose to wear the 🇵🇹 shirt in Germany this summer:

GK (3): Diogo Costa, José Sá, Rui Patrício

CB (5): Rúben Dias, António Silva, Gonçalo Inácio, Pepe, Danilo

RB/LB (4): João Cancelo, Diogo Dalot, Nelson Semedo, Nuno Mendes

MID/ATT (14): Bruno Fernandes, Palhinha, Vitinha, Rúben Neves, João Neves, Matheus Nunes, Otávio, CR7, Bernardo Silva, Diogo Jota, João Félix, Rafael Leão, Gonçalo Ramos, Pedro Gonçalves (Pote)

I think having Pedro Neto play this past weekend for Wolves, albeit for 12 mins, is huge.

I just don’t think it’s enough to merit an initial call up. He may still get there, ironically, if there’s an injury in the attack leading up to the tournament.

I think only one initial spot will be earned between Pote, Neto, Jota Silva, and Chico. And even though he had not been part of the qualification, I give Pote the edge.

Roberto Martínez named his 32-man squad for the upcoming friendlies against Sweden (3/21) and Slovenia (3/26).

Martínez talked about the depth of players at his disposal when he first took over as manager. You can see it here, with still other names not listed.

As of today, here are who I think are locks for the 23-man squad at :

Based on health and form, I expect these 8 to be in the mix for the last 5 spots:

I think J.Neves makes the squad, at R.Neves’ expense. If Pepe is healthy, Danilo backs up Palhinha. If Pepe isn’t, both Neves make it; Danilo at CB/DM

Mendes is a lock if healthy, with RG & NS in contention if he isn’t.

Jota/Neto are locks if healthy.

According to A BOLA, Roberto Martinez is expected to be in on Monday to finalize his deal to become the next manager of the 🇵🇹.

B24 in Portugal is also reporting that the deal in set to run through the in 2026, according to Spanish journalist Sique Rodríguez.
