Covid-19 is having gender impacts across every sphere, from health and education to jobs and social protection, and responses must take this into account.
Women make up less than 7 percent of world leaders. And yet, this small percentage has done a disproportionately great job at handling the pandemic - from Germany to Taiwan to New Zealand. There really ought to be more of them.

The success of these and other women-led governments in dealing with a global pandemic is all the more noteworthy, given that women make up less than 7% of world leaders.
The crisis has exacerbated inequalities and gender-based violence for women in the Middle East (and globally). But it has also visibilized these issues, prevalent long before the pandemic—making them much harder to ignore.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is giving most Western politicians a masterclass in crisis leadership. The country’s lockdown has been hailed as the ‘most decisive and strongest’ in the world.
There is a narrative circulating that the pandemic is some great equalizer. This couldn't be farther from the truth. While the virus itself may not discriminate, society does. And in moments of crisis, it is always marginalized communities that are hit the hardest.
The virus may not discriminate, but our society still does.
As we all face the threat of the pandemic, it has become clear that governments can take urgent action for the health and safety of the citizens of the world. The same strategy must be applied to the fight for the climate.

The COVID-19 threat has shown that governments can act swiftly and resolutely in a crisis, and that people are ready to change their behavior for the good of humanity. The world must now urgently adopt the same approach to the existential challenge of climate change.
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread across the United States, several lawmakers are using the outbreak as a cover. A particularly troubling example? An increasing number of states are moving to temporarily ban abortion outright, claiming that it is not essential health care. We know that's not true.
