𝗨𝗡𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗙𝗜𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗡𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡 𝗪𝗔𝗬𝗡𝗘 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟𝗦

On August 19, 2024, at approximately 8:27 a.m., the Wayne County Emergency Communications Center received a report from the Richmond Police Department regarding a male caller who claimed to be en route to Northeastern Wayne Schools with the intent to "kill everyone." The caller also stated that he was in possession of a bomb.

Upon receiving this information, the Communications Center dispatched police to Northeastern Wayne Schools and contacted the Wayne County Sheriff’s School Resource Officers (SROs) on the scene at the schools. The SROs and school officials immediately implemented the School Safety Protocols. Wayne County Sheriff’s Patrolmen arrived on the scene a short time later. Additionally, Sheriff’s Detectives, officers from the Indiana State Police, Fountain City Police, and the Richmond Police Department responded.

A command post was established by the Sheriff’s Office, and law enforcement personnel conducted a thorough search of the High School, Elementary School, and Pre-School. Simultaneously, Sheriff’s Office Administrators and Detectives worked to identify the caller. The name provided by the caller did not correspond to any students at Northeastern Schools or surrounding schools.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., with no immediate credible threat identified, Northeastern Wayne Schools resumed normal operations. Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputies remained on site to support the SROs.

Team are investigating this incident.

This morning at 8:27 AM, the Richmond Police Department received an anonymous call from an individual claiming to have taken his wife hostage and was en route to a local community school with a bomb. The caller provided vague information that potentially implicated Northeastern School Corporation and Richmond Community Schools. As a precaution, all local schools were immediately placed on secure school status while officers conducted their investigation.

After a thorough and swift response, all information provided to the Richmond Police Department has been determined to be unfounded. Officers have checked and verified all associated residences, schools, and potential victims, and there is no credible threat.

Chief Kyle Weatherly stated, “This type of behavior is not only reckless but dangerous, creating unnecessary fear and disruption within our community. We will not tolerate such actions, and the Richmond Police Department will conduct a full investigation. When the responsible parties are identified, they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

While all immediate concerns have been addressed, the investigation remains ongoing as we continue to pursue any potential leads. We want to reassure the community that, at this time, there is no active threat.

UPDATED STATUS: Local law enforcement has now removed the classroom secure status from all RCS schools. Students and staff will continue with their school day. We appreciate the collaborative efforts of our local law enforcement agencies in keeping our students and staff safe.

A man is allegedly holding his wife hostage, and their child is a student at Starr Elementary.

Richmond High School
David W. Dennis Middle School

Hasgerstown is on a soft lockdown and Test Intermediate is on a precautionary lockdown.

Did you know Singin’ Sam got his start on Richmond’s oldest radio station, WKBV? 📻🎙️

This week's theme is , and MRL comes back to an old favorite. Did you know that one of the biggest stars of early commercial radio was a Richmond native? Harry Frankel, better known to 1930s audiences as Singin' Sam the Barbasol Man, was raised in Richmond and went on to fame and fortune. It could have been even bigger fame, but for the fact that he wanted to stay home in Richmond, which limited some of his opportunities. He had programs for Barbasol and Coca Cola and was one of the most popular entertainers in radio. He succumbed to a heart attack in 1948 at the age of 60, and his widow donated all of his sheet music to Morrisson-Reeves.
