Hoppers end regular season on four game winning streak
By Derick Kelly
The Prairie du Chien Grasshoppers entered the last week of the regular season looking to snap a four game losing streak and gain some momentum going into the postseason.
First up for the Hoppers was Fennimore on Tuesday, July 16 in the Hoppers first home game at Dillman Memorial Field since June 26. Fennimore Post 184 came into the game looking for their second win over Prairie du Chien in three days.
A scoreless battle ensued for the first three and a half innings. Fennimore’s Tyson Starkey and Prairie’s Noah Pedretti each worked out of jams on the mound.
Westin Marx broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field. PdC scored three more runs in the inning to take a 4-0 lead. The Hoppers added three more runs in the sixth inning to give Pedretti a 7-0 lead, but one run was all the support he needed. He pitched a complete game shutout with four hits and three walks to earn the win on the mound. He also struck out six batters in the win.....

“We take a city street map and we drive up and down every street and alleyway, and we keep an eye out for un-rimmed tires, mostly, or places that have lots of containers that can hold water,” Writz said. “Tires, in particular, are good for getting generations of mosquitoes to grow quickly just because they retain heat really well.”

The breakfast raised money for local youth programs, according to club member Dave Wesener, who spent a good portion of the morning cooking bacon for hungry visitors. Local emergency crews have responded tonight to a once fully-engulfed residential fire at an apartment building on North Main Street, right behind Rowdy’s D&D in Prairie du Chien. Reports from neighbors are that the response from fire and police departments was quick and the fire is out. Though some people were initially trapped at the top of the building, all individuals are now accounted for, according to officials. The road is shut down at this time. APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT PREVENTION MONTH. To raise awareness, the Crawford County Health and Human Services Department placed blue pinwheels in front of the Main Street entrance to the county administration building and the county courthouse. The pinwheels at the admin building represent the 121 alleged victims of child abuse and/or neglect assessed in Crawford County in 2020. The pinwheels at the courthouse represent the 34 children found in need of protection and/or services in Crawford County in 2020. Children do well when their parents do well. Supporting families and ensuring parents have the knowledge, skills and resources they need are effective ways to protect children from the risk of child abuse and neglect. Community members can support one another by: *Taking time to talk to parents in your neighborhood—get to know them. *Sharing local resources with families. *Advocating for legislation and funding which supports family programs within your community. *Donating new or gently used clothing or toys to programs that support families with children. *Bringing a meal or groceries to a family with young children. *Organizing a family fun event—such as a family story night, game or movie night.
