Here is Neil's footage of the gosling jump from below the nest - a true drama of the natural world.
Neil was privileged to help film the remarkable leap of faith by the goslings who were hatched in the Decorah eagle nest. While RRP nest cam operators captured the footage from the nest, Neil waited below while the goslings gathered their courage and was able to follow them to the ground where five out of the six were united with their parents and took their first swim.

After a month spent working in the Alaskan arctic this summer, Neil is now filming much closer to home. He’s capturing prairie flowers and their pollinators in our own tall grass prairie that’s right outside our door. But you don’t need 45 acres of pollinator plants to provide food and habitat for these beauties - even in a small yard you can plant a few wildflower seeds and keep an area that isn’t mowed.
If you haven’t been watching our kestrel cam run by Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Raptor Resource Project it’s time to tune in! The 4 chicks will fledge in about a week and they are getting rambunctious. We have 4 boys this year - no wonder mom and dad don’t stay long when they bring food!

Chick no. 29 hatched on December 4 at 1:16 p.m., 25 hours and 13 minutes since it first poked its beak and cracked the egg. Seems like a long time, but actually it is the fastest pip-to-hatch record in our breeding program. This chick just couldn’t wait to say hello to the world! 😍

Neil has arguably spent as much time filming bald eagles as anyone on the planet - so it seems fitting that this pair has chosen to build a nest on our property, in view from our house! We feel honored by their presence and are determined to protect them while we watch them carefully craft their new home.

This is one of the young birds we filmed as a juvenile on the nest during our expedition for “Bird of Prey“ and “To Save Our Eagle“ 7 years ago. It’s wonderful to see her still thriving in the wild and we hope she will soon start a new generation of Philippine eagles and contribute to the knowledge of the breeding and nesting behavior and habitat of these rare birds.

On day 33 of incubation, the first chick was revealed at around 4:40 PM nest time on May 21 before a second chick hatched later in the evening.
