“Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: 'It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to.'"

Hello everyone!
Here is the second NCLM Reading Recommendation, another from Jacob:
"Beggars in Spain" by Nancy Kress
"A sci-fi novella about a growing minority of 'sleepless': people who never need to sleep, thanks to genetic enhancements received in embryonic state. While a great story of a troubled family, it also investigates the inherent inequality of the human condition, and what we owe to each other."
P.s. If you read our first recommendation, "The Mysteries of Pittsburgh," let us know what you thought in the comments!
NCLM Summer Reading Recommendations
From Jacob:
"The Mysteries of Pittsburgh" by Michael Chabon
"Like a modern-day 'Graduate', this book examines an aimless college grad grappling with newfound homosexual desire and the knowledge that his material comfort depends on the pain of others."

"The power of a glance has been so much abused in love stories, that it has come to be disbelieved in. Few people dare now to say that two beings have fallen in love because they have looked at each other. Yet it is in this way that love begins, and in this way only." - Victor Hugo
