Let's take a closer look at Rap...

Usually Metalheads spit on tall, skinny, tattooed guys with silly caps. Classic Rockers simply smile at this picture, while B.B. King fans turn their heads around.
Let's start with the last group. B. B. King fans went to his concerts to listen to his uptuned guitar sounds and tubular voice, but most often they went to his concerts to be together and have a sense of something bigger than just this one gig.
Later on, during one of louder concerts in history, some innocent gig in 1969... in Woodstock. A new generation was raised up that day and passed the torch to more and more generations. That fire burnt for the innocent, for the captivated, for the stringed, for the poor. A huge manifestation against everything evil for humanity. They 'almost cut their hair.'
With 70's Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin won over the world. Their peers Kiss, Van Halen, and Boston had established what Hard Rock really meant. They all sang "S*X and FREEDOM." That was a pure, white fight against everything that had no place in the musicians' and their fans' free heads.
80's was a boom-boom era of bombastic sound, loud guitars, bigger-than-life melodies and anthemic choruses. Europe and Bon Jovi were the staples of those times. They did not fight against anything because everything had already been said. Now, people only wanted to have fun. At least Poison meant so...
For bands like Korn, RATM and Soundgarden, old values had become new values. Everybody had matured, seen a lot (or nothing), and wanted something more. The time for fighting began anew.
This is where hip-hop music started. Evidenced bass lines and rhythm section that could've lifted up an entire house. That was not an another step into Rock 'n' Roll evolution, but a completely new branch, "branching" off sideways as much as possible, but remember one thing: emerged from the same roots! These people wanted to fight against politics, bad people's deeds, and systems. Also, these people wanted to have fun and a lot of parties, alike Winger or Judas Priest. The goal remained the same: voice through music.
Nu-metal bands, like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Biohazard, or even Anthrax proved that symbiosis between hip-hop and Metal is possible and effective. That's why we should not spit or smile, but nod heads for the movement which somehow managed to rescue Metal from falling the ground.
