KSQM County Conversations - January 13, 2023
Peninsula Area Public Access is partnering with KSQM 91.5 FM Community Radio to make important information and community coversations more widely available through social media and public access TV. The first of these efforts is a rebroadcasts of the monthly KSQM show "County Conversations with Rich Hendricksen." The show will air on Astound Cable channel 21 on Tuesdays at 10am, Fridays at 6pm and Saturdays at 3pm. You can also find it archived on our pages and the KSQM Youtube channel.

Dungeness Off Channel Reservoir Open House

Clallam EDC Executive Director talks with Kelly Liske, First Fed Bank's, EVP Chief Banking Officer about the Employee Retention Credit (ERC) Tax Rebate which could mean thousands of dollars to local business owners. The Employee Retention Credit (ERC) tax rebate program is a payroll tax refund from the 2020 COVID relief bill that also established PPP loans. Originally, companies could claim either PPP or ERC, but not both. In early 2021, guidelines changed to permit businesses to claim ERC in addition to PPP funds. This meeting was held June 8, 2022.

Clallam EDC Executive Director Colleen McAleer talks with Dr. Dan Underwood & Ted Hennessey about the EDC's effort to interview 508 people at local grocery stores, thus ensuring a randomized, representative sample of our population in the fall of 2021. They survey asked if participants were part of our working population or not and in which industry they work. Some of the primary concerns from the results were topics around - public transportation, quality health care, high speed internet, living wage jobs, child care and affordable housing.

Clallam EDC Executive Director talks with Bob Donegan, the President of Ivar's Restaurant, which is now in its 85th year as an organization. The company operates more than 60 locations throughout Puget Sound and employs about 1,000 people. Bob joined Ivar's in 1997 as the Chief Financial Officer and became President on 9-11 when one of his partners passed away. Bob was our keynote speaker the 2022 EDC Gala.

Clallam EDC Executive Director Colleen McAleer talks with Mark Ozias Clallam County Commissioner - District 1, Karen Affeld of the North Olympic Peninsula Resource Conservation & Development Council and Chelsea Millar, Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) Analyst about recent $24.5 million in state funding to expand broadband capacity west of Port Angeles. Clallam County contracted with the North Olympic Development Council (NODC) to help determine how to appropriately deploy those resources. This convsersation was held on April 27, 2022.

Coffee with Colleen and 2022 WA Legislative Session
Callam EDC Executive Director talks with legislators Mike Chapman and Steve Tharinger about the 2022 Washington State legislative session. The WA Legislature completed work on a massive supplemental budget increase of $5 billion in General Fund spending last Thursday. The Operating Budget is fueled by an increase in state tax revenues and the addition of federal relief and infrastructure funds. The spending represents a 24% increase in over the last two year cycle and a 50% increase in state spending since 2017.

We're launching a new series of recordings in collaboration with the Olympic Discovery Trail from their Traveler's Journal speaker series held at the Dungeness River Nature Center on Thursdays at 7pm from March to mid April. This is the first speaking event on March 3, 2022 featuring Dave Sreffler and Ann Soule talking about their experience traveling through the Grand Canyon by dory.
