The Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. countywide. Polls will be open in Amargosa Valley, Beatty, Pahrump, Round Mountain, Tonopah, and the Yomba Tribe in Reese River Valley.
See attached for polling addresses.

Ballots can also be dropped at any Nye County Polling Location on Election Day, and during regular office hours at:
- Clerk’s Office, 101 Radar Road, Tonopah
- Clerk’s Office, 1520 East Basin Ave, Pahrump

Mail-in Ballots must be postmarked by Tuesday, June 11th, to be counted.

On 6/10/2024 at approximately 1025 hrs., Nye County Sheriff’s Deputy Ruesch was responding to a disturbance call in the area of Terrible’s Lakeside Casino. Upon Deputy Ruesch’s arrival, he became engaged in a physical altercation with a male. While this was occurring, an unidentified private citizen stopped and assisted Deputy Ruesch. With the help of the private citizen, Deputy Ruesch was able to take the male into custody without injury to himself or the suspect. Sheriff McGill and his staff want to public thank this private citizen for coming to the aid of Deputy Ruesch. This selfless act by the private citizen helped bring this incident to a peaceful end.

The second Movies in the Park of the 2024 season is Saturday, June 8th, at 8:15 p.m. This week's movie is the 1971 family comedy classic "W***y Wonka & the Chocolate Factory," starring Gene Wilder. The movie is rated G and runs for 1 hour, 40 minutes.

From IMDB: "A poor but hopeful boy seeks one of the five coveted golden tickets that will send him on a tour of W***y Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory."

Come down to Ian Deutch Memorial Park (1600 Honeysuckle St.) and enjoy a FREE movie sponsored by the Town of Pahrump. The snack bar is also open and run by a non-profit organization.

Barbecues and fires are not permitted. The National Weather Service projects a temperature of 97 degrees at showtime.

Sheriff McGill recently presented Captain Means with his P.O.S.T. Management Certificate. The Management Certificate is awarded after successfully completing the 200 hour P.O.S.T. Management course. The course material consists of a variety of topics specifically related to the management of a law enforcement agency. Please join us in congratulating Captain Means on his accomplishment.

Southern Nevada Fire Restrictions Order Announced

LAS VEGAS – On June 8, 2024 the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, Clark County, Moapa Valley Fire Protection District, Mesquite Fire Rescue, Mt. Charleston Fire Protection District, National Park Service, Nevada Division of Forestry, Nye County, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and USDA Forest Service are implementing fire restrictions in Southern Nevada.

Interagency fire restrictions prohibit:
Setting, building, maintaining, attending, or using open fire of any kind is prohibited, except campfires within approved fire pits and grills provided for in developed recreation sites. Controlled flame devices such as portable stoves and lanterns with shut-off valves, using gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel are allowed.
Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or camp trailer, or while stopped or standing in a three-foot diameter area barren or cleared of all flammable materials.
Operating or parking a vehicle or other motorized equipment over or on top of dried/cured vegetation.
Any Hot Work involving electric or gas welding, cutting, brazing, or similar flame or spark-producing operations.
Recommended Actions:
Have a shovel, fire extinguisher and/or at least 5 gallons of water on hand in the event of an unintentional fire start.
Utilize nevadafireinfo.org to obtain information on fire activity and additional restrictions.
The following persons are exempt from this order:
Person with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
Any federal, state, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force, in the performance of an official duty.

This Fire Prevention Order is effective 12:01 AM, on the 8th day of June 2024 and will remain in effect until the 31st day of December 2024, unless rescinded earlier.

These restriction orders are considered Stage I. Stage II fire restrictions may be implemented later. The Southern Nevada District BLM has year-round fire restrictions that always limit certain activities. The Southern Nevada Fire Prevention Group works diligently to make fire restrictions easy to understand. Fire restrictions may be different in other areas of Nevada.
Agency-specific exceptions/exemptions and additional restrictions in place:

Bureau of Land Management, Southern Nevada District Year-Round Fire Restrictions
Possessing, discharging, using, or allowing the use of fireworks, pyrotechnic or incendiary devices.
Possessing, discharging, igniting, or causing to burn; explosives or explosive material, including binary explosive targets.
Discharging a firearm using tracer, incendiary, or steel-component ammunition. [Use of tracer or incendiary ammunition are always prohibited on public lands].
Operating or using any internal or external combustion engine without a spark arresting devise properly installed, maintained and in effective working order. (43 CFR 8343.1(c)).
Clark County
Clark County allows:
Small fires for religious or ceremonial purposes, cooking, and warmth of human beings provided they don't become a public nuisance.
Outside the Las Vegas Valley, when such fire is set on a field used for growing crops in the course of disposing of unused portions of a crop and intermingled weeds resulting from an agriculture operation.
Domestic burning of material originating on premises, exclusive of garbage, at a property used exclusively as a private residence or dwelling where there is no collection service available for such material.
Any burning so permitted must be controlled so that public nuisance or traffic hazards are not created as a result of the air contaminants being emitted.
National Park Service
Lake Mead National Recreation Area
Wood or charcoal fires allowed in grills of developed picnic areas and campgrounds where a host is present
Wood or charcoal burning devices allowed on the shoreline where natural vegetation is at least 100 feet from the shoreline.
Barbecue grills allowed on private boats outside the harbors of Lake Mead and Lake Mohave. Rental boats are authorized to use barbecues attached to vessel if allowed under rental boat agreement. All vessel barbecue fires must be at least 100 feet away from shoreline vegetation.
Smoking is allowed outside of an enclosed vehicle in areas that are cleared of all flammable material for at least three feet. Ci******es must be discarded in a car ashtray or an ashtray in a developed area.
Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument
Fires are never permitted within monument area.
Nevada Division of Forestry
In Nevada state parks, park staff may or may not allow campfires on a day-to-day basis based on current local weather conditions. During Red Flag Warning issuances or other weather events, park staff may post signage stating that campfires are not allowed.
Nye County
No discharging of fireworks, pyrotechnics, or incendiary devices.
Pahrump, NV only:
Property owners must obtain a burn permit during burn season at 300 North Highway 160, Pahrump, NV.
The Burn moratorium is from May 15th-November 1st. No burning is permitted during this period of time.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Desert National Wildlife Refuge
While fire restrictions are in effect, fires are not allowed anywhere on the Desert National Wildlife Refuge outside of the Desert Pass Campground.
Use of the fire rings at the Desert Pass campground is required while restrictions are in force. No rock rings or ground fires are allowed.
Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge
Visitors are required to use grills or the provided fire rings. No rock rings or ground fires are allowed.
USDA Forest Service
Spring Mountains National Recreation Area
Campfires are only allowed within the approved fire pits or grills provided in developed recreation sites. A developed recreation site has Forest Service signage that designates it as an agency-owned campground or day use area and is identified on a Forest Service map as a site developed for that purpose.
Operating a chainsaw or other equipment powered by an internal combustion engine between 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. is prohibited during fire restrictions.
Outdoor smoking is only authorized while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is clear of all flammable materials.
Year-round fire restrictions are also still in effect for the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area. Swim Lesson signups start Monday

The Pahrump Community Swimming Pool will hold swim lesson signups on Monday, June 10th, and Tuesday, June 11th, starting at 11:30 a.m. both days

Class times and dates are not available at this time.

The toddler swim lessons are supported by a grant from the Southern Nevada Chapter of the International Code Council.

Excessive Heat Warning issued for Southern Nye County
The National Weather Service has issued an EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNINGS for Southern Nye County, effective 10 a.m. Wednesday to 9 p.m. Friday.

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions for early June. High temperatures were 107 to 114 for Pahrump Valley and Amargosa Valley, and 118 to 122 degrees for Death Valley National Park.

Please Note that Beatty will be under a Heat Advisory from Wednesday through Friday, with 102 to 104 degrees highs.

Park employee died in off-duty vehicle crash

DEATH VALLEY, Calif. – Rigoberto “RJ” Avina died in a vehicle crash in Death Valley National Park on May 26. Avina had worked for the National Park Service for nearly 3 years but was not on duty at the time of the accident.

“RJ's passing leaves a hole in our community’s heart,” said Superintendent Mike Reynolds. “He was a smart young man with a bright future. I will miss his smile and grieve for his family’s loss.”

Avina, 28, of Pahrump, NV, had worked in Death Valley National Park’s maintenance division since September 2021. He was survived by his wife and two young sons.

Avina died in a single-vehicle accident on CA-190. Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of fatalities in Death Valley National Park.
