Random Fun Nerdy Facts about Pi Day —
Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, or approximately 3.14
⭕️
Pi Day occurs on March 14, because the date is written as 3/14 in the United States. If you're a serious math geek, celebrate the day exactly at 1:59 a.m. or p.m. so you can reach the first six numbers of pi, 3.14159.
⭕️
March 14 is also Albert Einstein's birthday.
⭕️
And now you know, eh?!

Groundhog Chet agrees – an early spring it is!
The great and powerful Punxsutawney Phil isn't the only one who says spring is on the way. Chet, the township's groundhog, concurs.

Yes, we have a groundhog. He lives by the township hall. I met him last fall when he posed for this photo. Chet agrees with his fellow furry forecaster in Pennsylvania, but for different reasons.

"No offense, but Phil bases his predictions on his shadow," said Chet speaking in Groundhogese. "I'm a little more scientific. I pay close attention to the squirrels. The more nuts and acorns they stash, the longer the winter. Their current stockpile is pretty small, so that means spring will be here before you know it."

Thanks for the prediction, Chet! Here's hoping you have a long and successful career as a marmot meteorologist.

Happy Groundhog Day to all!

Baby it’s COLD outside! The arctic-like temperatures we’re currently experiencing can lead to dangerously cold wind chill values. People exposed to extreme cold are susceptible to frostbite in a matter of minutes. Areas most prone to frostbite are uncovered skin and the extremities, such as hands and feet. Hypothermia is another threat during extreme cold. Hypothermia occurs when the body loses heat faster than it can produce.
❄️
Here are a few tips on how you can minimize the misery:
1. Bundle Up — it might seem obvious, but loose layers are the way to go, even indoors on days like this.
2. Indulge in Foods That Help You Keep Warm — eating extra healthy fats during the winter can help rev up metabolism! Think your favorite “comfort” foods!
4. Keep Your Toes Toasty — hypothermia is most likely to begin in your extremities like your hands and feet, so keeping your toes warm is important.
❄️
Stay warm people and please remember to check on your neighbors, elderly and pets!

As we approach the two-year mark of the tragedy that forever changed our community, all district buildings will be closed on Wildcat Remembrance Day, November 30, 2023. Please spend this day in whatever way feels right for you and your family- to heal, reflect, mourn, and most all, to love.

A list of mental health supports are always available to members of our community on our website: https://www.oxfordschools.org/wellness___recovery/support___recovery_resources_ Please be reminded that the All For Oxford Resiliency Center is open and offering mental health resources for anyone in need.

On November 30, please join us in coming together in solidarity as a school community. Wherever you and your family are, let’s share a moment of silence at 12:51 p.m., with respect to when this tragedy began and all the lives that have been affected. At 7 p.m., we invite everyone to simultaneously light luminaries or candles, in remembrance of Hana, Tate, Justin, and Madisyn, as we continue to light up Oxford and beyond with love.

As the Orion Lighted Parade hits the streets this Saturday at 6p.m., we'd like to remind you of parking lot and street closure orders that will be in effect.

Parking along the parade route is not permitted from 3p.m. to 8p.m. on Saturday. See map below for the red arrows.

Parking is not allowed in the street, unless posted otherwise. The area between the street and sidewalk is open for parking on all streets. If there is no sidewalk, it's private property and you could be towed.

The parking lot, southeast of N Broadway and Shadbolt, will be closed to all vehicles from 11p.m. Thursday night, through noon on Sunday.

All lots accessible from S Anderson will be open for parking HOWEVER, no vehicles will be allowed to enter or exit from 5p.m. to 8p.m., or while the parade is underway.

Officers will close all relevant intersections at 5:50p.m. Please plan ahead, as no traffic, including ride share or food delivery, will be allowed though the parade route once the intersections are closed.

Be sure to stop in to one of more of our fantastic merchants downtown, and grab dinner and drinks at our many restaurants.

We look forward to seeing all of you bundled up tight, enjoying the parade safely.
