Historical and Valuable Underwater Bottle Collecting.

This video is about discovering incredible natural art with bull barnacles on antique bottles 70 feet under the ocean. The antique bottles date back to the 1870's near Victoria, British Columbia. This was filmed over 3 seasons using a non-stabilizing camera. We are looking forward to returning this year and to film with our GoPro10 camera.

Although this is not a rockhounding video, it is part of what we do as we build a fantastic museum collection dealing with all aspects of geology as well as mining and natural history. Victoria boomed starting in the 1850's with the Fraser River Gold Rush. Soda water producers followed and we are finding their bottles underwater. Chris Morley tried his hand at gold mining at Leach River in 1864 to 1866 before going into the soda water business.

Christa is still working on her diving skills so was not part of the underwater filming. We wish to thank Mike and Kim for their friendship, time, and of course their boats!

We hope that you enjoy what may be a rare look into underwater mudlarking in British Columbia.

Collecting underwater alone. Recovery of 1870's coal cart wheels.

This video is about the ultimate mudlarking - underwater style and the discovery and recovery of 200 pound coal-cart wheels from the 1870's. They were found 40 feet under the ocean and it was an adventure not only digging them out of the mud, but getting them to shore as well. This was self-filmed over 9 dives in December of 2013 using a dive camera duct-taped to a metal pole that was jammed into the mud - really high-tech stuff I know!

These wheels went on a 5-tonne coal cart. They were likely made in England and shipped over to Nanaimo, British Columbia, for use on Robert Dunsmuirs' coal mine and coal-docks.

I used voice-over and text for most of this video. Please let me know in the comments section if you think this works well or not.

Thanks,

Jack and Christa

Discovery of a new Thunderegg location with some valuable jasper and agate gemstone.

When you discover an amazing rock and when that rock is cut open to reveal it inner beauty, the feeling of pure joy you can experience is equal to that of finding a gold nugget, and the rock can be extremely valuable too. Our videos offer you this experience as we constantly find new and beautiful and valuable rocks.

This video is about our adventure of hunting for gemstones and getting to a fabled thunderegg deposit on the beautiful north coast of British Columbia. It involves atv-ing, prospecting, and hand mining beautiful gem agate thundereggs as well as gem jasper in reds and greens. Perfect for those lapidary enthusiasts to see a new source of thundereggs, agate, and jasper. The green thunderegg/jasper material shown in this video is similar to material from Mt. Hay in Australia and the Little Naches material from Washington.

We offer viewers unique, newly-discovered locations and in many cases never-before-seen rocks and gemstones.

We have a new GoPro10 camera for this video so please forgive the color-adjustments in some scenes (working on it!). We have many upcoming future videos about our other fantastic gemstone sites in British Columbia. These include amethyst, thundereggs, and jasper. We plan to keep gemstone mining as green as we can - essentially hand-mining or small scale mining as a family business. Please subscribe so as not to miss out on future videos.

Special thanks to the Winter family for their companionship and supplying Jack with an atv!

We hope you enjoy the video.

Treasure Hunting and Collecting of Antique Mining Artifacts on Vancouver Island. Thousands of people have walked over this site, which is just 15 minutes drive from the highway, without knowing what was buried below. Some of the artifacts are simply pieces of rust, but when cleaned properly they become fantastic artifacts and some could be made into jewelry.

We have this and other more in-depth videos coming. If you are interested, please subscribe!
