UPDATE 8:55 p.m. We’ve added the briefing to the photos on this post.
At about 5:15 p.m. the WC3 dispatch center got a call from a crisis hotline employee stating that a woman had called and made threats to harm people at the zoo.
Riverside, Brookfield and Brookfield Zoo police initially responded. Eventually some 50 officers from various local, county and state police agencies responded and methodically cleared the grounds and buildings.
The investigation continues and very little detail was given regarding the specific nature of the threat and whether police have positively identified the person who made the alleged threat.

UPDATE 8:06 p.m. Numerous Police vehicles now leaving the South Gate. Very few left in the south lot now. We are told there will be a briefing in a half hour or so.
Initial info we’re hearing is that someone from a crisis hotline alerted police to the threat, which still hasn’t been specified.

UPDATE 7:33 p.m. Things are pretty much the same. It’s calm and visitors and employees are leaving in small groups. Police continue to arrive at the scene and there is a large presence with officers from local area departments, Cook County and the state police on scene.

UPDATE 6:54 p.m. Visitors and employees are being allowed to leave in groups as police clear buildings. Police are escorting people to their vehicles in groups. Some areas of the zoo have still not been officially cleared and remain locked down.
