A couple of months ago we featured one of our community members and local leader in one of our podcast episodes. She was a bit anxious about it, but in the end we had a great chat.

Last week, I received this email from her:

"An overdue thank you for the podcast. I was really nervous putting myself out there. However, it ended up bringing so much unexpected peace to my life.

My father-in-law is republican and we’ve had some heated debates about conflicting values in the past. However, he listened to the podcast at least 5 times and had the most heartfelt conversation with me after.

So much so, with recent election news, he researched how he can help protect my little family, particularly making sure my wife has legal parent rights outside of VA.

This conversation wouldn’t have happened nor would the connection I’ve had with him without the podcast. Thank you for the opportunity!"

And this is why we do what we do. Change happens one person at a time sometimes, and it all starts with being out.

I know you’re familiar with Outlife757, Hampton Roads LGBTQ Media and Events Company. In 2025, we celebrate our ninth year as a leader, voice, and advocate for our region’s thriving q***r community, and I’d like to thank you for your support.

Next year, more than ever, it’s vital that we continue in that role in an even more visible way. Along with other local, regional, and statewide LGBTQ agencies and organizations, we are committed to informing, organizing, and protecting our community.

Please take a moment today to visit the Virginia Assembly web site and comment with your support of three state constitutional amendments coming up for vote TOMORROW:

HJ1: Constitutional amendment; fundamental right to reproductive freedom (first reference).

HJ2: Constitutional amendment; qualifications of voters, right to vote, persons not entitled to vote.

HJ9: Constitutional amendment; marriage between two individuals.

Codifying these rights on a state level will go a long way towards countering any action the Federal government may take to revoke them.
