Just ahead of her 93rd birthday this December, Rita Moreno is officially getting her very own Barbie doll! Mattel is releasing the new doll as part of its Tribute Collection that honors trailblazing female figures.

Nemonte Nenquimo is among the world’s most recognized Indigenous climate activists. Born deep in the Ecuadorian Amazon as a member of the Waorani tribe, Nenquimo triumphed as the lead plaintiff in a landmark 2019 suit against the government’s planned auction of Waorani land to oil companies.

“We Will Be Jaguars: A Memoir of My People,” released in the U.S. this week, is the title of Nenquimo’s memoir which serves as both a recollection of her people and a coming-of-age tale that spans three decades. Where outsiders and anthropologists have often fallen short, Nenquimo aims to reverse colonial narratives and urges readers to respect Indigenous communities and Mother Nature.

At the link in bio, learn more about Nenquimo’s mission and how we can take action.
