Combining brilliant command of the instrument with rare musicality, pianist Crystal Jiang is one of the most promising young pianists of her generation. Originally from China, Crystal came to the U. S. in 2014 from the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music China. She graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory, where she studied under Peter Takács, and is now studying with full scholarship at UMKC conservatory under Alon Goldstein. Crystal has held solo recitals in major concert halls including the prestigious Musikverein in Vienna, China National Center of Performing Arts, and the Kauffman Center of Performing Arts in Kansas City. She has won first prize in numerous competitions, including the concerto competitions at both Oberlin and UMKC, the Arthur Dann Piano Competition, the Three Arts Club competition, and most recently the 70th Wideman International Piano Competition. Pianist Albert Cano Smit is already becoming an audience favorite for his performances as a soloist with orchestra and in recital. He has recently performed with the Las Vegas Philharmonic conducted by Donato Cabrera, and he has also appeared with the San Diego Symphony, Montreal Symphony, Orquesta Filarmónica de Boca del Río, Barcelona Symphony, and Catalonia National Orchestra, and Manchester Camerata. Mr. Cano Smit won First Prize at the 2019 Young Concert Artists International Auditions. He also won First Prize at the 2017 Walter W. Naumburg Piano Competition, which presented him in recital at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall. Most recently, Mr. Cano Smit was awarded the 2020 Arthur Rubinstein Piano Prize from The Juilliard School. This season, Mr. Cano Smit will appear in the Young Concert Artists Series at New York’s Merkin Concert Hall and the Kenney Center’s Terrace Theater. Mr. Cano Smit is currently pursuing his Artist Diploma with Robert McDonald at The Juilliard School. Mr. Cano Smit is an alumnus of both the Colburn School and the Verbier Festival Academy. Introducing our artists: Ismael Guerrero, cello
In 2017, cellist Ismael Ariel Guerrero Bombut became the first student from Havana, Cuba to attend the Heifetz Institute. He began his cello studies at the age of 8, and won several competitions and participated in masterclasses from such renowned cellists as Carlos Prieto, Clemen Hagens, Leidi Litschauer, Frans Helmerson, Colin Carr, and Laurence Lesser. He is now in his fourth year of his undergraduate studies at the Peabody Conservatory as a student of Amit Peled. This is Ismael’s third appearance as a member of Heifetz On Tour, having performed previously on tours in Pennsylvania and Virginia. In 2019, he attended the Keshet Eilon Festival in Israel, where he performed as soloist with the Tel Aviv Soloists Ensemble. He has also performed in Switzerland, Mexico, Cape Cod, North Carolina, Florida, Baltimore and Washington DC. He is currently a cellist at the Mount Vernon Virtuosi Orchestra and the Peabody Peled Cello Gang, and has just been selected as a semifinalist for the 2020 Sphinx Competition. Jay Gandhi, bansuri and Dibyarka Chatterjee, tabla
A multifaceted artist, Jay's music is at once reflective of his devotion to his Guru, the inimitable legend of the bansuri, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia, as well as a diverse range of other musical influences. Jay’s initial training in Hindustani music was under Smt. Kum Kum Sanyal (vocal) and later in bansuri under Pt. Ronu Majumdar and Pt. Raghunath Seth. Inspired to gain a deeper knowledge of both the gayaki ang (vocal style) as well as the tantrakari ang (stringed instrument style), Jay has also taken valuable guidance from Pt Vidyadhar Vyas (vocal) and Pt. Nayan Ghosh (sitar, tabla). In 2006, he was blessed to have been accepted as a disciple of Padma Vibhushan Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, and has since had the honor of accompanying his Guru on stage for multiple concert tours.
2017 Salon de Virtuosi Career Grant Winner Dibyarka Chatterjee is the son and disciple of Pandit Samir Chatterjee, and as such represents the Farrukhabad Gharana of tabla playing. He spent his childhood in India where at the age of 7 he was already performing in concerts, as well as on Akaashvani Kolkata (National Radio - Kolkata Station). Upon moving to New York City with his family he has continued to perform regularly with both Indian and Western music. Dibyarka has had the honor and privilege of performing and touring with maestros of Indian Classical Music like Pandit Jasraj, Pdt. Budhhadev DasGupta, Pta. Lakshmi Shankar, Utd. Shujaat Khan to name only a few. He has collaborated in world music projects with groups like the Dance Theater of Harlem, the Battery Dance Co., and with fusion musicians/composers like Salman Ahmad (Junoon), Douglas Cuomo, Gary Lucas & Najma Akhtar amongst others. Dibyarka has a Masters in Fine Arts from Goddard College (VT).

The Ulysses Quartet has been praised for their “textural versatility,” “grave beauty” and “the kind of chemistry many quartets long for, but rarely achieve” (The Strad), as well as their “avid enthusiasm ... [with] chops to back up their passion” (San Diego Story), “delivered with a blend of exuberance and polished artistry” (The Buffalo News). Founded in the summer of 2015, the group won the grand prize and gold medal in the senior string division of the 2016 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and first prize in the 2018 Schoenfeld International String Competition. In 2017, the quartet finished first in the American Prize and won second prize at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. They were winners of the Vietnam International Music Competition in 2019. From 2017 to 2019, Ulysses was in residence at the Louis Moreau Institute in New Orleans, working with composer Morris Rosenzweig. In fall 2019, the Ulysses Quartet was named Lisa Arnhold Fellows of the Juilliard School, an appointment that has been extended through May 2022. The gifted young members of the Korossy Quartet started working together in 2018 while studying with Péter Kováts at the renowned Liszt Academy in Budapest. The following year, they won the Leo Weiner National Chamber Music Competition and were invited to the Quartettissimo Festival. They have participated in the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA) master class in Budapest, among others, and their work is supported by many prestigious artists, such as Katalin Kokas, Barnabás Kelemen, Johannes Meissl, Patrick Jüdt, Márta Gulyás or György Pauk. Participants in such famous festivals as the Auer Festival in Veszprém or the Festival Academy in Budapest, they performed in several famous Hungarian concert halls, such as the Solti and Great Hall of the Academy of Music, the concert hall of the Old Academy of Music, and the Marble Hall of the Hungarian Radio. The Korossy Quartet strives to continue the renowned Hungarian string quartet tradition as well as to introduce and present the widest possible repertoire to national and international audiences. Hungarian-born violinist and Salon de Virtuosi Career Grant winner Béla Horvath began to play the violin at age 3. Starting his violin studies with his grandfather, Béla immediately showed an outstanding talent for the violin. Therefore he was taken to the famous Hungarian violin teacher Valeria Baranyai, with whom he studied for many years. During those years, Béla won a number of national violin competitions in Hungary, as well as international violin competitions in Prague and Vienna, including the National Janos Koncz violin competition in Hungary in 1997. The following year, he entered the 9th International Carl Flesch Violin Competition. As the youngest contestant, he won 4th place as well as a special prize for the best interpretation of Miklos Csemicky`s Solo Sonata for violin. Béla Horvath made his debut recital at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall in 2003. The debut of his piano quartet, Amity Players, was at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall in October 2006. They have recently released a recording of two piano quartets by J. Brahms for the Canadian label, Marquis Music. As a soloist and recitalist, he has played in many notable venues around the world, including in the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, France, England, Slovakia, Hungary, the United States, and Canada. Selected as a Gilmore Young Artist, an honor awarded to the most promising American pianists of the new generation, pianist Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner 's multi-faceted artistry has been featured on NPR, PBS, CNN International, the Wall Street Journal, and WDR-Arte. Since making his concerto debut at age 6, he has performed under the batons of conductors including Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, Peter Oundjian, Karina Canellakis, Michael Morgan, Boris Brott, Tito Muñoz, David Lockington, William Noll, Burns Taft, Robert Lawson, and Karim Wasfi. Mr. Sanchez-Werner performed at the Kennedy Center and the White House for President Obama and now-President Biden, for President Peña Nieto of Mexico, Prime Minister Peres of Israel, and President Kagame of Rwanda. Mr. Sanchez-Werner holds Master and Bachelor of Music degrees from Juilliard, where he was awarded the Kovner Fellowship, and an Artist Diploma from the Yale School of Music, where he was awarded the Charles S. Winners of the 1st Prize at the 2019 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, Quartet Amabile was formed at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Japan. In their time together, they have won First Prize at the Romanian International Music Competition, Grand Prix and First Prize at Japan’s Yokohama International Music Competition, and the Kirishima International Music Festival Prize and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi Music Director Prize at the Kirishima International Music Festival.
