Afrobeat Journal

Afrobeat Journal The journal works in tandem with the New York Afro-Beat Festival (NYAF) to generate meaningful creative content from musicians, artists and scholars.

AfroBeat Journal is an interactive, on-line, multimedia journal that aims to link the scholarly and creative output of intellectuals and artists in the global African world. There are many journals that focus on the scholarship of Africans on the continent and in the diaspora, yet there is a visible absence of an on-line presence in the format envisioned. AfroBeat Journal seeks to encourage cross-

cultural dialogues via a virtual platform that brings together scholars, writers, musicians, and other artists using language and media immediately accessible to the global community. Each issue of the journal is devoted to a specific theme. Our first issue was published under the question, "What is AfroBeat?", while the second issue: "African Rhythms, Roots Culture" commemorated the legacy of jazz legend Randy Weston. Currently, we have an open call for scholarly papers and creative writings on the theme "Black Brazil." We encourage submissions that cross the divide between critical discourse and artistic creativity in a range of formats, including poetry, prose, visual, musical text and multimedia.
